Stu pod,
Thank you for your interest. I am a private practitioner. I have been in pvt prac for about 3.6 years or so. The only suggestion I have made to students and DPMs is market yourself. I visited 1000 + FPs, orthopedics, sports med. specs, nurse practitioners (some practicing sports med), PTs, and even chirpractors to establish myself as a credible entity in medicine.
I have seen refs and consults from 40-50% from the professionals I visited. I have mainly marketed myself as an orthopedic podiatrist since my emphasis of training was in sports med and ortho.
I will not hire an associate because I believe that it is a discrimation tactic for what DPMs are really worth.
They deserve higher status and wont get it unless they are willing to rise to the level of MD/DO/(DC)/NP ect.
I perform surgery about 2-3 times a week consisting of mainly sports injuries and aquired defs.
Last week I performed 2 triple arthos, 4 bunionects, 3 plantar fasciects, and 1 (arthroscopic) anter tibial tendon repair.
Both triples were ref from two different orthopedic surgeons who specialize in knees and shoulders and didnt want to touch these pts.
My point being stu pod, is dont let anyone here discriminate against you. You are a doctor of podiatric medicine and the sky is the limit.
You have the potential to be very wealthy. My practice grossed over 800 K in the last 13 months.
Hard work pays off. Dont let anyone tell you different.
