Who caresby Anonymous (no login)If you are legit then you are a problem but more to the point. I am maximally trained and practice full scope. I have access to ER call but opt out at any place that will allow that. We are the only profession who wants to take ER call. Most specialties try every angle to get out of ER call. Many ER patients have no or bad insurance. Some by there lifestyle and noncompliance that got them in the ER in the first place make them terrible patients even if insured. One point, if you feel the need to do ER work then please make sure you do not cherry pick. This is a valid point made by some orthopods. When they have to take call they have to take everything. Many DPMs want the fractured toe, fx metatarsal, ankle sprain, etc. but then say refer the open talar dislocation to ortho because I do not do those. You are either an ER specialist or not. Also remember many of your ER pts will be sick, noncontrolled diabetics with osteomyelytis, PVD etc. For me I rather let ortho have the fractured toe or met and avoid these problem, high liability, poorly paying patients.
