The Facts

Before you get bombarded with horror stories from those who are failing, here are the facts of our residency program(Podiatric Surgical-24months):

Year one: Base salary 60-120,000, benefits, and a bonus system. Most will make a net income of 70-80,000. This is primarily because it will take 6-12 months for the new associate to join the plans of the group. Therefore there is a lag phase before bonuses will be realized.

By year 3-5 the majority are making a net of 100,000-300,000 depending on location, practice type, and local politics.

Partnerships with opportunities to invest in surgical centers and share the profits are typically offered sometime between years 2-4. This can be lucrative particualrly if a good surgical center investment or real estate is involved.

Now as for the $500,000. If this is gross this is doable by years 3-7 which would translate to approximately 225-250,000 net. If this net then I would venture to say that this is a very small percentage of the profession. Some surgery centers are paying out as much as 20-30,000 per month to their owners but more are in the 3-6,000 range.

I hope this helps and when you hear about grads eating dog food, sleeping in their car etc., remember there are a few people on this site who post under several names who are out to "get even" with their chosen profession and blame their failure on everyone but the person in the mirror. A few have legitimate complaints regarding disparity in post graduate training but many have their own demons to deal with before they can move on.

My opinion
