gloom & doomby Resident (no login)The survey is true, but remember statistics can lie: 1. Those strugling may not be in the survey 2. It is not uncommon to start at around 50K for the surgicaly trained podiatrist, and work long hours. 3. Large cities are very competetive (small to middle size cities far from schools are where the opportunities ar at) 4. One can do well in podiatry, but bottom line it is not a gurantee like most other professions of similar or less training and expense. With the internet most future students should already know this. 6. One must be very pro-active in creating job opportunities after residency, you will not be recruited heavily or have multiple offers in the city of your choice. It is more difficult to move and start over in this profession. 7. Again, despite the obstacles if one makes it in this profession it can be good money with lower call and liablity than most other specialties. 8. Many who do not make it are well trained and good doctors, and you can see how they would be bitter not to make the living they deserve and post on forums like this. I would be tempted to do the same in their situation. The doctors doing very well, will not usually have the time to read or post on forums like this, and often employ the young surgically trained docs to do the C&C for them. They also make 500k plus and have income from surgery centers to average in with the rest of the docs salary in the survey. 9. Although much of what is on this forum is true, it is somewhat repetitive and depressing (most other professional student forums are much different than ours). Young docs and students would be best not to visit this site too often as they will need all the enthusiam they can to help them make it in this profession and not become one of the bitter posters. from IP address 64.219.77.174 Goto Forum Home |
