classmatesby JeffB (no login)As I run in to classmates at various CME events I find less and less of them are in practice. Grown men in the 40's who are still living at home with parents who are in so much debt they will never repay it. I've met podiatrists who are now stockbrokers, teachers, police officers and firemen as well as people who returned to an old career who are now more than $100,000 in debt. It's a terrible situation. The people on this board who feel this is still a viable career option are mistaken. New grads cannot get on insurance panels and cannot find jobs. This is an undisputable fact. When I was at NYCPM 2 students left after the second year and we ridiculed them for giving up. I wish I was back in that position and could turn back the clock and so do the majority of the pods I talk to. If you are a podiatrist who is considering leaving, do so. The people who say new grads are getting 70-120,000 to start are hallucinating. I am sure it is possible, but it is the exception not the rule. I left podiatry 6 years ago and my biggest regret was not researching the field enough before entering it. If this board provides anything it provides an avenue for prospective students to reconsider going in to this profession. I wish there was a board like this when I was considering this field from IP address 24.187.199.162 Goto Forum Home |
