I truly do wish you the best of luck in podiatry. However, I do take issue with how you are getting your information. People have a lot of pride and do not easily admit they are not doing well whether it be on a survey or speaking to a student. For example, I work for a very large pharmaceutical company in sales and part of my responsibility includes calling on podiatrists. I very rarely tell them that I am a podiatrist. Other than 2 pods who work doing foot surgery in an orthopedic practice and one doc who inherited his practice from his father do I see waiting rooms full of patients. However the docs that work in the ortho offices seem to be glorified PA's. They both work with board certified foot and ankle orthopods assisting them with cases. Podiatrists all have plenty of time to speak with me and make excuses why the waiting room is empty on that particular day. Even docs who have a reputation of having tremendous practices do not seem busy to me. I also receive the prescription data on all these docs on a regular basis which is a true indication of how busy they are. I hope for your sake you do well, but I am speaking from experience that many in our field do not share. It is possible to be successful as a podiatrist, but it is the exception and not the rule. This fact is sad and unfortunately true.
