excellent argument. I guess podiatrists to feet are what dentists are to mouth. One question: the oralmaxillofacial surgeons and the podiatric surgeon could argue that they use identical techniques, treat the same ailments, train the same way and has the same patient populations as MD/DO surgeons and thus should be recognized as physician (which OMFS has the option to obtain for extra 2 yrs)? are they are they not?.
General dentists and general podiatrists (PPMR) can't make that claim. A general dentist would say that he/she is a dentist not a physician but a general podiatrist would say he/she is a physician. "physician" is just a label, we're podiatrists and thus should be proud to be called
podiatrist" just like our dentist brothers and sisters. I am a general podiatrist first, second and last and proud of it, i'm not an MD/DO and doesn't want to be one or called one.
