Dear Jenniferby pod (no login)Read every post on this site.. Yes, every post and come back with your questions. Podiatry is a good field for the right person. I would describe the successful podiatrist as follows: 1. Seeks to purchase or start a practice immed. after residency. 2. Is a risk-taker who is not afraid to fail. 3. Tough minded with solid negociation skills. 4. Is NOT looking for a guaranteed job 5. Is willing to locate at the ends of the earth for a good opportunity. 6. Is not restricted to one city or state. 7. Is willing to live a very meager life for many years ... 4 school 2-3 residency and 4 more to get a practice going and then 10 more to pay off loans. 8. Understands that student loans are NOT removed with bankruptcy. Translation: if you fail at this, you can not just start over. you are financially in deep trouble. 9. is unmarried. I think podiatry is as good for a marriage in the beginning as Dairy queen is for a diabetic. Most of my friends and myself are divorced. Do not get married until after your practice is off the ground. 10. enjoys stress. lastly, don't be a knuckle-head. If you choose this route, you need to negociate for lower tuition through scholarships. It is o.k. to bargain with these people. I would contract for the entire four years. It is absolute bull**** that you can start a program and not know how much they will charge you in the coming years. My tuition went up substantially over a 4 year period. May those bastar*s rot in hell for taking advantage of us like this. Good luck. from IP address 69.29.58.80 Goto Forum Home |
