saturationby pod (no login)You must remember that the number of dentists required per population will be higher than the number of podiatrist. This is due to several factors. 1. People of all ages customarily use dentists for preventive maintenace cleanings whereas patients only tend to see a podiatrist when they have pain. 2. Oral cavity pain tends to be more severe than most foot pains. Furthermore, when people can not eat without pain they tend to get medical assistance quickly. 3. Dentists have 100% market share of the "mouth pain" market whereas podiatrists share our turf with chiropractors, general doctors, dermatologists, and orthopedic doctors. 4. Podiatrist are more dependent on insurance and have fewer cash patients than dentists. Now to answer your next question: How do I know if an area is saturated? Ans: Go to your nearest hospital and get a list of the top ten most common health insurance plans. Then call these plans and ask for provider relations. This individual will know whether they are accepting more podiatrist on the panel or not. If a large number of plans are not accepting new pod than you are wasting your time trying to break into this market. BTW, I will never understand why so many docs just have to live in the metro areas. They are full of traffic, crime, and tend to require you to kill yourself to keep up a decent standard of living. Why not try thinking "outside the box" no matter which profession you choose. from IP address 67.22.112.164 Goto Forum Home |
