Here we go again, the dimwits return.by Podiatrist (no login)For a while there I thought we had seen an end to the mindless generalizations so frequently posted on this web site. Low and behold another one steps up to the plate with such original insight and commentary on the state of podiatry. And what do we hear from this fountain of podiatric knowledge? Unsupported assertions, silly generalizations and outright lies. Allow me to take them one at a time; Huge loans: Newsflash, all graduate degrees require a significant investment. Low Pay: Check the stats; your average podiatrist makes more than your average pediatrician or internist. furthermore, as the time in practice increases, the income level approaches the surgical specialties. The key is getting the right residency training, this is easily accomplished for those willing to actually work hard. No Respect: This one really gets me, I have yet to encounter the medical doctor after 10 years in practice who will say something derogatory to my face. Perhaps its the fact that I am younger and more successful than most of the doctor's I work with or simply the fact that competence commands respect. But this is true in all aspects of life; this one has to come from within, not from a piece of paper stating MD. No One Knows What A DPM does: funny, I am never at a loss for patients, so much for that one. Poor quality clinics: since when is medical care based on the posh settings? I was under the impression that medicine was the profession of treating the sick and infirm, whether or not your setting matches the set of some sleek hollywood medical show. Grow up. Low Caliber students: another ridiculous generalization, talk to podiatrists in practice, they are intelligent, insightful and caring people; just like any other medical specialty; to say they are "low caliber" is to cast aspersions on hard working folks who clearly must be of high caliber considering the fact that the large majority of Podiatrists are more successful than 99% of the general population. Again, check the statistics at the Dept. of Labor and cross reference that with the average national income level and education level. enough said. Bottom line; think before you write off an entire profession. And don't try to assuage your inner conflicts by dashing the hopes of others who would likely succeed where you most probably failed. from IP address 143.104.182.136 Goto Forum Home |
