fearby I was once where you are now (no login)Ever notice how much effort is put into defending podiatry from the nay-sayers? Why is that? Does that happen in schools that offer degrees with MD after your name? I was warned away too (by great men in the medical field). But I was young and I was taught to never quit. There are no short cuts. If you can't get into a school that offers an MD degree, don't go. Do something else. It will save you from a world of regret. At least if you have an MD degree, you have the freedom to change your mind and pursue another field of expertise. If I read this while I was in podiatry school, I would be tired, overwhelmed, and angry just like you are right now. You will work just as hard as any other medical student. You will be just as competant as any other medical doctor. You will do a surgical residency BUT you will NOT make as much money, nor will you receive a fraction of the respect. There is nothing wrong with orthopods. They simply work in the same area of real estate. But they are medical doctors, and you are not. You probably won't read these words due to censorship, but at least I tried to help you. You will not have a foot shaped swimming pool;-) You will not make that mystical average of $250,000 per podiatrist per year (fuzzy math?). But then again maybe that's only true in my poor home state of Connecticut. I did not fail in podiatry because I am old and of limited capabilites. I failed because I was led to believe in a field that does not exist. Yes there are a few (one or two) that excel from my class, but most have chosen other fields (i.e. our valedictorian). I hope for your sake that I am the complete loser that other posters will have you believe. Consider this. If I had purchased a gas station instead of pursuing a podiatry degree, if and when this business failed, I would at least have had the ability to go bankrupt and start over again. I am now left in an uncomfortable position. The great thing about death is, your student loan debts are not passed on to your children. As long as I live though, I will drag that depressing anchor with me. Right now those who profit from you are gearing up to respond to this post and claim that I am not a "friend to podiatry". I am not a "friend to podiatry". I am trying to be a friend to you. May you have great things in your life, and as it pertains to you, I pray that everything I have written is fallacy. from IP address 67.86.117.161 Goto Forum Home |
