What happened to all the English players that started the season at Manchester? Did they get their fair play of ice time?

Only three English players left who started the rest have ended up at Flintshire.

The three English players who have stayed are

Mark Larry Lovell

Jason Hewitt

Mark Thomas.

The other British trained player still with them is Dave Clancey as a back up netminder with limited ice time

British Player's

ALL of them get limited ice time, the back up net minder gets limited ice time regardless of his paasport.
After Detroits disaster last night (8 goals on 29 shots) they may want use Clancy.
Anyway the British lads that have stuck it out have done themseleves proud, lets hope that they get asked back next year.
IMHO they should have to have 2 british trained players on the ice at all times in both the elite & national league.

fair play is not something assoc with mr brebant and co
i think they were a little peeved that the imports did not shine brighter than the brits , to have five good brits who im sure would have outshined the imports had they had the chance would never do !! for our canadian friend, imagine the fans horror at the money spent on the imports and the £50 brigade doing all they were doing and more. Very sad , they used every excuse they could think of. Not dedicated because they needed to keep jobs or go to university to provide money to pay for morgages , cars to get to training ect not everyones parents can keep them. Phoenix and Mr brebant were NOT supportive and billy russ and worrall would have given the team that excitement and buzz they were sadly lacking. shame!!

He did play in some games for the phoenix or did you miss them!!!!!!!!! and he played well its just that Unfortunately Mr Brebant was not satisfied with the 100% he put in whilst trying to fit in training, games, the gym and work full time (did he really expect Billy to give up his job and play for the phoenix for 50 pounds a week and keep paying his mortgage) more importantly would he have done the same . I think he would not even have got out of bed for 50 quid.

Which games did he play in then as he left before the opening game of the Elite League season.

Big fan of Billy and would of loved to see him given a fair crack of the whip.

Then finanially (and other alleged incidents) the Brits did not get the crack of the whip. Yet all praise to those who were able to fit playing proffesional ice hockey in with there work commitments.
Lets hope the financial rewards and more ice time next season are on offer for all your detemination.

Also for the record I am not a Phoenix fan for those who dont know me.
Was willing to give the Elite League a chance but so far feel let down by the set up as a whole.

Very interesting point Paul but does not that go against your excellent article on enforcement you posted preseason last year.

Even thouh it works well in reverse in the Premier League with only two imports at anyone time on the ice.

When did that alter as at the start of the season it was four imports on the bench but only allowed to ice two ata timeas Telford won a succesfull appleal against the now defunct Haringey team for playing excess imports

no they can have three imports,in any combination players/netminders on the ice at any time, remember as well the penalty box counts as being on the ice therefore if an import picks up a minor penalty they can then only ice two imports which is where it get's interesting with import netminders as he's always the forgotten import, which i assume is where Haringay fell foul at the start of the season as did Slough recently at Romford

Thanks for the clarification on that one under the wrong misconception over the number of imports allowed.

Then again never really counted the numbers on ice justappreciatedthe standard of ice hockey and entertainment on show.

Have I got the other half ofthe ruleing right only 4 imports allowed on the bench.

Maybe the Elite League may be seen to be doing more if itused the three import rule on the ice in regards to developing the local trained players.

Premier League Guide

April 14 2004, 5:29 PM

Haveing found my guide to Premier League ice hockey it states that only 4 imports allowed to be named on the bench for any one game and that three imports includeing the netminder on ice at any one time.

I can see where my confusion stems from over the number of imports allowed on the ice. Yet it states only 4 imports to bench
which is where the confusion over how many imports allowed on the bench arises.

Obviously I need to update my source.
