Both Jay and Thommo named in GB's squad of 30 from which the final 22 will be selected soon for this year's World Championships (Pool B/Div 2) in April.

Lets hope they both make the final squad.

Top of the class, in Matsos' books right now, is Mancunian Jason Hewitt, who has evolved into a genuine presence on the ice.
"Hewy has got such a creative side to him; he's rolling with confidence," he said.
"I know Hewy can play 30 minutes and do it well. He did that at Nottingham against a rivalry team in a full house and assisted on a game-winning goal.
"And he had more shots than any player on either team. He is having fun out there. "

Shame the Phoenix chose to overlook him, Phoenix Brits are lucky if they get 5 minutes.

Jay appears to have developed big time since leaving Manchester for London and Sheffield.

Yet my old friend Miller time Joes mum says he is comeing on leaps and bounds under Tony after his time working with Claude Dumas

Don't think Phoenix necessarily overlooked them - I just suspect there wasn't much in their budget for Brits. This year, I believe, has been the first year that Jay and Thommo were able to get decent contracts.

Stop being so bloody cynical, whoever you are "Hockey fan". The brits get plenty of ice time for Phoenix, as much as the other two, and are called upon when needed. Adam Walker filled in the gap on the second line when Parez was out injured, and Joe Miller has shown his class. Matt Rich and Rado always put 110% in and get their deserved ice time. Matty Compton is the only player who really hasn't had a chance yet, mainly because the team hasn't had a chance. Most games have been competitive (expect the two which weren't and was used for them and brought on the ice in Newcastle and Edinburgh).

Whether you want to believe it or not, Phoenix are (again) doing their part in helping brits get better, they're giving the chance for the best british players to come and player higher level hockey, and when the junior development gets going properly, this will become even more efficient. This is the way forward, and hopefully we will start to play our part in helping GB become successful once again a few years down the line.

We could do a lot worse, instead of looking to develop brits we could throw money at the best brits to get them to play for us - say like I don't know maybe Sheffield with Jay and Thommo. By the by, if you had any knowledge about the sport in this country, you'd know they were there last season and chose to stay there for other reasons, possibly Sheffield being the more established and successful organisation. Possibly the coaching. But anyone would be insane to think they chose Sheffield as a second-alternative.

Hockey is back in Altrincham, and the Greater Manchester. Its not perfect just yet, but the same coaches that made Alty so successful are back here and ready to make it great again. If you don't like the way things are being handled, Tough.

(Rick - Apologises for that rant)

GB squad:

Netminders: Stephen Murphy (Edinburgh) ; Stevie Lyle (HC Morzine, France).

Defence: MIKE ELLIS (Panthers) ; David Phillips (Hull); James Pease (Coventry); Jonathan Weaver (Newcastle); Tom Watkins (Coventry); Graeme Walton (Belfast); DANNY MEYERS (Panthers).

Forwards: DAVID CLARKE (Panthers); MATT MYERS (Panthers); Tony Hand (Manchester); Greg Owen (Basingstoke); Warren Tait (Sheffield); Mark Richardson (Cardiff); Shaun Johnson (Newcastle); Jonathan Phillips (Sheffield); Ashley Tait (Coventry); Paul Sample (Cardiff); David Longstaff (Newcastle); Nathan Rempel (Cardiff); Russell Cowley (Cardiff ).

Reserves: Mark Lee (Newcastle); Mark Thomas (Sheffield); Jason Hewitt (Sheffield); Gary Clarke (Milton Keynes).

Jay and Thommo are both first reserves and I'd say from the list, Jay can only just have missed out.

Well done Jay and Thommo, an amazing achievement to reach the top level from both of you.

And for all those phoenix fans who cannot understand how Altrincham doesn't need an ED1 side to continue developing British players, then thats surely proof how wrong they can be.

Bet there isn't too many ED1 clubs who can boast they have 2 players in the British squad who have played through their junior ranks.

(All you need to do now is injure some of those in front of you to make sure you get to those championships)!!!!
