My uncle, Russ Russell, flew B-25s (pilot) in the Pacific, but I waited too long to ask which BG he flew with.
He wouldn't talk about it unless he had an infusion of booze, which I unfortunately waited too long to administer.
He was a long, lean guy, about 6'4+ with a dry sense of humor. I wonder if anyone out there might remember him? Is there a list of 38th pilots available somewhere?

Thank you for your sacrifices and what you did!

I was a pilot in the 38th Bomb Group, 405th Bomb Squadron from Juky 1944 to April 1945.
When was your uncle flying in the sw Pacific?
There were two other groups flying B-25s in that area.
Early on, the 22nd Bomb Group was shifted to B-25s after flying B-26s in the early part of the war.
The 38th started flying in August/September 1942 bringing their own B-25s to combat that August.
The 345th Bomb Group was formed in the summer of 1943 and flew B-25s from the start.
Actually, the 3rd Bomb Group found itself in Australia in Jan. 1942 with no planes. B-25s originally shipped to the Dutch East Indies Air Force, were assigned to the 3rd Bomb Group in January or February 1942 and then they received additional B-25s.
I will be meeting with the President of the 22nd Bomb Group Association for lunch on Wednesday. If you can give me some additional information, I can take it up with him.
I will also post your request in the next issue of 38th BG Association newsletter coming out in May.
Please send me your fukll name and mailing address and I will send you a copy of that issue.
