Dear Alexis,

I flew with the 405th Bomb Squadron after the time your Grandfather was with the 38th Bomb Group, 71st Squadron. There is an Association of members of the war time 38th Bomb Group. We have reunions every two years. Our next reunion will be in late September of 2006 in Phoenix.

I am the editor of our Association newsletter. I will post your request in the next issue which will come out in May. We have had a little bit of success in bringing people such as you together with someone who knew your Grandfather.

I will also search some files available to me to see if there is mention of him and will let you know. I will also search our previous newsletters to see if there is something there.

How much do you know about our group and about your grandfather at present? I may be able to stear you to some other sources of information.

Hello,
Thank you for responding. I just happened to come across the website when I
was on the internet looking for information about the squadron my
grandfather flew with, so I just know what is on the website.

I did a little bit of research on my grandfather, who was the father of my
late father, and know the following.
Richard P. Schumacher Service #0-732585
(born 1920 Lake City, MN)
First Lieutenant U.S. Army Air Corp.
Enlisted from Minnesota
He was the Pilot of a B-25 that was shot down off the coast of Wewak Harbor, New Guinea on Sept. 2, 1943.
He was declared missing in action/buried at sea.
The entire crew was lost. He was awarded a Purple Heart and a Silver Star.

A WWII researcher sent me a copy of the combat narratives of his final mission.I am in the process of locating the MACR (missing air crew report) and his personnel file, but have not obtained them yet. I don't even have any
pictures of him, only the two metals he was awarded.

I would be very grateful for any help you could offer me.

Thanks a lot,
Alexis I. Brown
