My grand father served with the 5th AAF 71st bombardment squadron, 38th bomb group from 1942-1945. I don't have much info on his service other than he participated in the Battle of Rabaul and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. If anyone flew with him or knew him, i would be grateful to hear about it. Thank you & God Bless!

Dear Teddy,

I flew with the 405th Bomb Squadron of the 38th BG from July 1944 to April 1945. I did not know your grandfather.
But, I am the editor of the 38th Bomb Group Association newsletter and will list your request in the forthcoming issue.

If you will send me an e-mail address and a Post Office address, I will send you a copy of the newsletter which has information on the history of our group, interesting stories of various events related both to the group and to individuals. There is also information about our current activities and our next reunion which will be in Phoenix in September, 2006.

We take special pleasure in trying to help relatives gain a greatere knowledge of what their loved one was doing in those long ago days.

Teddy,

Your granfather is a member of our 38th BG Association (although according to the records I have, he has not sent in his dues for 2005/2006). I posted your request in our May newsletter and have received messages from two men who would be interested in talking to you.

You could subscribe to our newsletter as a "Friend of the 38th BG" and learn more about the 38th, what our life was like in those days and what we did.

Please get in touch with me.

I know Ed very well. I do not see him often but last time he was well and hearty. We trained together in the states and went overseas together. He was my navigator and a very good one. WE found all the little islands no troble. In New Guinea Ed, Charlie Musick and I were tent mates plus crew mates on most of the missions including Rabul. Hope this gives you a little insight on Ed.
