Gallery 2 of the sunsetters has one fantasticphoto that inparticular demonstrates the skill and fearless nature of the US bomber pilots during WW2. My interest stems from the fact that in 1970 I salvaged the CHA16 (the sub chaser that was about to be demolished in the photo) in fact I found the bridge structure some distance from the wreck, it was completely blown off! The reason for the contact is I am writing a book about my salvage experiences in New Guinea and the Hanover wrecks still puzzle me. There is a freighter in the bay, believed to be the Sanko Maru and a tanker reputed to be the Taisyo Maru not far away on the reef. (the burning wreck that the pilots amazingly flew through) I have never found any other reference to the Taisyo Maru and she is not listed in the official records. Can anyone out there shed any light as to the name and details of the 2 ships that were sunk in the raid? Please contact me at brbb@bigpond.net.au if you can help.
