My father, Dillard Dillingham was a Sergeant in the 71st Squadron - 38th B.G.(M) of the 5th Air Force during WWII. He didn't talk about his experiences often, but when he did, I was young and dumb and didn't pay attention. One thing I remember him saying was that when he tried to obtain copies of his records for some reason, he was unable to get them because they had been destroyed in a fire. Any info I could get on his war time experiences from anyone who knew him would be greatly appreciated. I know he was some type of mechanic on the airplanes. I lost my dad in 1993, and now regret not asking more questions when I had the chance. I know he used to attend reunions, and remember he went to one in New Mexico and I drove him and my mom to one in Allentown, P.A. in the 80's. Even though he didn't speak about it much, it was obvious he was very proud of his service. I am very proud of my dad, and would like to know more about this time in his life.

Dear Kim,

I am the editor of the 38th BG newsletter. If you will contact me directly by e-mail, I will be delighted to put your request in our next newsletter, scheduled for mailing in early September. We may well stir up some memories of men who knew your Dad. I know how you feel; I have three proud daughters, two of who recently provided my wife and I with a special treat, a flight on a B-25 at an air show.

Our next reunion will be September 28-30, 2006 in Mesa, Arizona. We would be delighted to have you join us.

We also have a web site where all our newsletters are available:
http://38thbgpsun-setter.com/

You might also wish to receive the newsletters which we send to all "Friends of the 38th" for a contribution of $10 or more per year. It is issued three times a year - January, May, and September.

Let me know if you are interested in the Reunion and I will see that you get all the information. But, PLEASE, contact me by e-mail.
