My name is Jim - My Great Uncle was a radio man bellygunner in the 823rd - his name was Sgt Theodore 'Ted' Anagnos -
I am unsure of when his plane went down - he is listed as FOD - but the date of documents on this site list him as 12/15/45 -
The story as I know it from his sister (my grandmother) is;
His plane was shot down all crew bailed out and were seen rowing a raft toward a Japanese occupied Island.
His name was read not to long after over the Japanese radio as being captured.
Possible crew may have been Sgt, Johnnie Boykin, 2nd Lt. Robert Chapin Jr. and F/O Otis Newland (these guys are listed the same date KIA) There must have been more - How many cre on a B-25G?
Could it be that he was shot down earlier than his KIA listing?
Where would he have his missions been?
How can I find out how many missions he flew etc...
and what Islands he may have been captured on?
I would appreciate any information I can get to add to our family history.

B-25 Gs were flown to combat by the 822nd and 823rd squadrons which joined the 38th BG in the summer of 43 starting to fly in combat during October. The B-25G did not have a belly turret but the radioman did fire from gun positions in the waist. I don't think B-25 Gs were flown after mid to late 1944. B-25 G's had a Pilot, Copilot, Navigator, Flight Engineer, Radio Operator, and Turret Gunner. The Turret was just behind the rsdio Compartment which was just behind the Bomb Bay. With the 75 mm cannon in the nose, there was no Bombardier. Because of a shortage of Navigators, many missions were flown with a Navigator in only part of the planes.
The date of 12-15-45 was probably the date that a review was finally completed on previously reported MIAs who the Army finally determined must have been KIA as they tried to bring a conclusion to all questionable circumstances. The war had been over since August of 1945 and the US was occupying Japan.
It will take me a few days to try to locate information on the men you mention and the mission. If you will get in touch with me directly, it will help in our communication.
