Gale put the postcard in the suitcase himself. He had received the postcard much earlier but withheld it from his wife. He wanted her to see it after he was executed so it would further prove his point of being innocent. He knew that she would find it after his death. He also included the money that he was paid by the newspape for the exlusive story. He wanted the money to go to his son.
