      When we see that Gale was in the videotape, we see that he came from behind the camera, not in front. He was videotaping Constance killing herself. He was only operating the camera. This proves that he did not do it, which of course, means that an innocent man was executed for a murder that he didn't commit.

      Regarding the note that promises to secure Bitsey's freedom: I took it that "securing her freedom" was more of a metaphorical "freedom" or "mental escape" more than an actual freedom from captivity or anything like that.

      If anyone has any more thoughts on this, please chime in.
