Photo Posting Help

I don't recommend using "Insert Object" to post photos. The photos are gone after a week. Some of our members can't get here once a week, so they miss out on all the photos posted using "Insert Object." It's neither difficult nor costly to upload a photo and post it--that way it can remain available as long as you want it to be.

Here's a link to a very nice site which keeps an up-to-date list of free places to post photos (free prints, too). The ones that have the "ebay OK" symbol allow direct linking:

http://www.andromeda.com/people/ddyer/photo/albums.html

If you don't want to go through the list, try photobucket:

http://www.photobucket.com/

Just follow their instructions for posting photos (250kb size limit) and then copy the link beneath the photo.

Come to the forum and start your post. Paste the link into your post if you just want a link. If you want it to show up as a photo then write it like this (your photo link that you copied goes where you see the picture here):

Another one I like is Graeme Falkner's site. It's free for the first 30 days and very cheap after that. It will also write the HTML code for direct linking:

turn on!

Thanks!

I just took your advice and got signed up at http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com. I have already posted a photo on the Skyscapes thread.

Very comprehensive help. If this doesn't get someone up and running I don't know what would.

Thanks for putting up a link Jim. Now it won't get lost in the old threads.

Never did a hard search myself, thanks for the leg work and instruction.

Quick question, which I may answer myself when I have time to join, but did you mention 600 size because if it is larger they resize? Do they resize?

Carol: Not guilty. Bryan is the only one who can change the forum page.

David: 50% of the monitors currently in use for internet viewing are set to a resolution of 600X800. With the system tray and menu bars, you're obviously not going to be able to see the whole photo at that resolution.

So, assuming that folks visiting a photo forum would be likely to have higher than average resolution, most of them can probably see most of 600 pixels and the folks with smaller monitors won't be too overwhelmed.

If anyone is really interested, we could do a monitor resolution survey IN ANOTHER THREAD.
