Is it me, or is speeding in Merly on the increase. I have seen signs up warning people to travel at 30mph, but does anyone actualy follow them? Scince seeing signs up through Rempstone Road,I have still seen roughly 10-20 people still going over the limit. Something must be done.

Speeding etc

I agree Nathan - there is an issue with driver behaviour in relation to speeding on the Merley Estate and with thoughtless drivers using the pavement for parking. I agree with drivers mounting the kerb to make room on the roads, as long as the path is not blocked. Some drivers do not seem to appreciate that mums with prams etc need about three feet to navigate their prams & broods along the pavement. Do we need to wait until there is an accident involving a pedestrian using the road to get around a car before action is taken? One approach is to make a note of offending drivers' number plates and then contact the local homebeat police officer and ask him/her to visit the individual and remind/educate them about there responsibiliites to pedestrians. In other words - make complaints to the police.

It would appear that Merley are now taking the matter into their own hands. We are now seeing a response in the Merley Magpie magazine, stating that their will be a crackdown on this issue. I am extraordinarily pleased at hearing this news, and would like to thank everyon who replied.

Thank You.
