I've been wearing for nearly 5 years now. I just got my newest unit cut in last week. I did an initial washing on it prior to cut-in and 2 washing since then. I only use Pureology Nanoworks Shampoo & Conditioner on my units. Haven't even had to use an Desolvit yet on this one. I'm convinced that the factory sprays these units prior to shipment to us. I've done a bunch of searching on here tonight but all I found was speculations. My unit is soft but it just doesn't seem to have that volume like it does on that first wear. After the 3rd washing now, it's just like any ordinary piece. My house water is good by the way.
So what's the secret? Does the factory spray these with some kind of silicone spray? If so, can anyone tell me where I can find this stuff or a substitute for it?
Pureology makes a spray gel that has some silcone forumula in it but I'm not sure if that's the same kind of stuff that i'm getting at with my question.
Thanks much for any info...

My father owns a business that does work for the food industry. They have these FDA grades of silicone spray. I'm seriously going to try it on my previous piece. I'm not sure why they would make it a secret. It's all part of hair care. If I can make my piece 100%, everytime I clean it that makes me a happy customer which only benefits the factory in the long run anyway. We'll see how it works out.
Like I said, I use 100% Nanoworks Sham & Cond. Haven't had to use Desolvit yet. I also do not use any gels, hair sprays etc.. to damage my units.
You only help the cause and improve hair wearing. I like how everyone try to do their part and get involve in this forum. Even if experimenting with new product or new ideas. Because some just haven't the capability or the knowledge to figure out these thing.
I went over to my fathers business tonight and took my previous retired unit along with me. I sprayed a couple of light coats to it with the food grade silicone spray and brushed it in. Sure as sh*t, it had that new hair piece smell to it. I compared it with my brand new un-cut unit that's still in the hair netting stuff.
I'm going to try it with my newly cut unit over the weekend. I will try just a light coat for the first time.
Tonight is wash night for my new unit so I decided to put just a front & back tape on the unit I sprayed and put it on just to style it up. Very silky soft & manageable.
I will post back some results sometime after Monday.
NOTE: on the can it said waterproof. I would think that would be a good thing.
"99.99% of Hair goods you can see or buy in any country were treated with Wig Oils and Silicone based industrial Oils for making Hair look ( feel) Silky, Soft, Wet, or Healthy. But the Wig oils must come off, or be washed off just after 1 time of washing, or a few times of washing from Hairs just like lady's make-up on face.
What is more, any of the Wig Oils does not make damaged Hair restored.
But, our Permanent Hair Coats are effective for a very long time because our Permanent Hair Coats are Ionic-Bonded onto Human Hair and Fiber to be one body.
In some seconds after you have Hairs wet with the Hair Coat conditioner (mixture) by spraying, the treatment ( permanent hair coating) is done, and right then, you can do washing, shampoo, rinse, perming, etc.
The hair coating effects ( Silky Look, Wet Look, Untangling, Damage-off, etc) do not get lost for about 6 months, or after 100 times of washing."
I've used the hair coat stuff on my own hair and like it....but I am afraid that it coats the hair enough so that recoloring it may be an issue. something to think about.
As far as the silicone spray stuff, what is the intended use for the spray your using? if its in a food related business, what do they use it for? just curious. I would definitely try it on some old units.

Just reading on the silicone shampoo... It say's to microwave your unit? Am i reading it right?
Anyone microwaved their wig before?
'After applying conditioner place the unit in a sealable microwaveable bag with 2 fluid ozs of water. Seal bag and microwave for one minute. Remove from microwave and let sit for 30 minutes.'
keep in mind the first ingredient on the above product is sodium laurel sulfate which is the one ingredient we try to stay away from .
not sure about the microwave thing....it must seal in the silicon or something.
I think a similar product can be found in beauty supply stores in the states. next time I'm in, I'll look at the silicon sprays and see what they say.
still curious about the silicon food spray though....that seems like it would be safe since it is sprayed on food.
would be interested in the ingredients.

I wonder how different it is to silicon sprays that are made for car dashboards/interiors. I've got a bottle of 'Armoural' in the garage, i'm tempted but i don't want to suddenly sprout a steering wheel out my head !!
I see this post is still floating around. I have had good luck with the silicone spray. It makes it very manageable similar to a new unit. When I go back to my fathers business sometime this week, I will get the exact wording off the can.
On my old unit, I gave it 3 light coats but that turned out to be too much. Just 1 light mist is all you need. You don't really want to do this on a unit that's somewhat old and has alot of gold tones showing because they will show that much more.
I'm not sure I would try armour all If anything do it on an old piece.
I am a bit confused. Many people told me silicon isn't googd for hair as it seals it and so no nutrients from shampoo and conditioner can come in. The other point is, that silicon makes the hair lieing flat.
So what do you think about this toppic? It is different for hairpieces with its processed hair?
Had my new toplace unit for a few weeks now. I've noticed when they are new they are more silkly, don't matt as much in the mornings and have a water resistancy to them, when I get out the shower the hair towel drys like natural hair instead of knotting up.
Now I've washed it a few times, seems some those good elements have been washed away. So it maybe a silcone coating.
I found this stuff in a a shop and tried it on one of my old dryed out pieces, it has restored it back to how it first was.
Also bought a can of fabric scotch guard which makes fabrics water resistant. Just waiting for it to dry on a old piece but i think this is going to be a mistake as had a really strong chemical smell!
