On 'N Off Glue

This Aussie fabric glue, made by CraftSmart, is proving itself to be a great glue for wig wearing . Avantages are:

* super easy application - cream white glue that dries very quickly;

* even if you overshoot the lace the glue dries hard and the hair does not get stuck into it;

* minimal seepage even after days of wearing in hot weather;

* virtually no bleed through into the lace;

* no dirt lines around the hairline even after days of wearing;

* holds firmly, as good as BaseBond or CP glue;

* when it does start to lift it can be pressed back down again and keeps on adhering (great for difficult social situations where applying more tape or glue is inconvenient);

* cleans up in hot soapy water, then just wipe with a cloth;

* super cheap - 60ml bottle costs less than $4.00AUD and lasts for months;

* readily available in Spotlight Stores (they're everywhere)

or for Aussie wearers

Thanks for the info Traco.

Curious, have you ever tried CoolPiece Cream Glue and, if so, what were your results?

Sorry,that should read 'Off 'N On' glue not 'On 'N Off'.

CP Cream glue is probably my second favourite glue after this one. I get around 3 days usually before the front starts to lift in places with CP glue. It can however bleed into the lace and seep a bit when it begins to break down.

I also like CP Oil Resistant Glue but it doesn't seem to last any longer than the regular CP on me.

Main problem for me with the CP glues is the cost - $30 to $40US for the glue then CP slugs me another $52US for shipping. The Off 'N On glue costs $3.99, holds for longer and has countless other advantages.

I could never get Basebond to hold for more than a day or two.

Max Grafting Solution aint bad, bit more work to clean up, lasts as long as CP glue .... but you really have to take out a bank loan now to be able to afford it.

I don't like the application and clean up hassles with Ultrahold and I couldn't get more than 3 days with it anyway.

Thanks for the info Traco, I have been in spotlight before & saw they had alot of glues but i was not game enough to try any. I will try the off n on glue now as it sounds like a good glue for the hairline. Right now I'm using all ST-30 tape which is good, great hold, but I think this glue might be the key to a more undetectable hairline. I was using Ultrahold just at the very front before but,same as you said, I'd only get a few days hold with it & clean up was a pain. At least with this Off n on glue It sounds like I'd be able to lift & clean the front very easily & quick. Thanks again for all your info.

James

on 'N off glue

I have only become the "HAIRMIESTER" within the last 6 months,when I made the decision to re-enter the world of hair ,I realised that I would have to educate myself to the whole art of it again(I had worn a system from hcm for about 15mins to hide a new set up transplants) after my 5th set of plugs I finally understood that I could never get the results that I wanted, I finally decided to take the bull by the horns & educated myself in the art of hair systems,IF I WOULD HAVE DONE THIS SOONER I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT A HOUSE WITH ALL THE $$$$ I GAVE TO DOCTORS FOR PLUGS!!!!!!!!!!!! MY HAIR ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!I have regained my confidence & then some.I want to especially thank Traco as his info on the glue (On'N Off) in Toronto its actually called Aileens Tack it again(something like that) as I like to take the systems off at night,all the cleaning with solvents was a pain & shortining the life of the systems I had,with all the info on this site & another as well, plus great help from a gentleman named Bill Richter I have a whole new outlook on life & regained a lost vigor,I know nobody can tell I'm a carrying a system,& like I told the my last evening encounter as I was leaving her pad
"real men wear HAIR" Lol she's been calling all day today.Thank You

so the aussie glue is the same as aileens tack it on and off? there is a michaels store near my house that sells aileens tack it again and again.

my question. How do you detach the unit and then retack it on again? do you use hot water to lift it up, and then just push it back down. Im a little confused on how this glue actually works. if the bond is so good, then how come u dont need alcohol to remove?

Off 'n on glue

February 4 2008, 7:28 PM

I have both sfs lace & polyskin systems,I have taken the skin base off 6xs alone this week(suntanning,sleep etc) each time to detach I spray some hot water & just carefully roll it off- back forward,to re atach?, I spray 99% on my scalp wait a minute,then put it on press with my fingers to let it tack up,(it looks incredible) the lace system I apply the glue to my head,it quickly becomes invisble I spray 99% on & apply the lace on again gently applying very little pressure,when I take it off,I spray hot water@•roll from back to front,@I soak it in really hot water mixed with a little conditioner & a touch of mineral oil,whatever residue that was left on the system just wipes off!the lace came out of the water spotless since reading traco's article & another article by someone named tim ferris,I haven't shampood the systems & have not used any glue remover,(I beleive this will a-increase the lifespan of the systems,b-keep them from discolouring as fast c-because I can easily remove the systems if I set them incorrectly,I am totally confident of my appearence when I leave the house,which in turn makes it viable to wear & man what an advantage when you can basically re attach in 5min as oppossed to 30min, if it's not set rite! I also find by soaking the systems in very hot water the hair stays super soft,which in turn gives it nicer feel & movement! I really am in debt to this site!

Re: Off 'n on glue

Being that I live 2 minutes from a spotlight store i purchased some of the 'off and on glue'. It holds quite strong and is easy to apply and clean up. Its good to have a place here where i can get a good glue if i am in an emergency with no tape.

For me its still st tape for the hairline. Awesome Hold, thats all to it.

Sam

hm, try tombos' skin trick with tape.

I think he puts scotch tape on the skin first.

I tried with the scotch tape as was recommended on this site,although it did work,I didn't feel like it was on proper(it didn't feel tite enough,maybe just my head pardon the pun)and I actually feel the glue to be more convenient on skin & come to think of it the aileens glue seems to be less damaging than tape om the lace base as well

so when you take the unit off to sleep u leave the glue still on ur scalp? Wouldnt that collect dust and dirt and be uncomfy with a sticky head?

Re: off 'n on glue

February 4 2008, 10:42 PM

well with the lace system,it is left on the scalp because you apply to the scalp when you are attaching the system, it washes off in the shower with just warm water & shampoo,the good thing about the glue for the lace system is because the glue comes of on your head there is not much left on the lace,& because you're not using any solvents to detatch the system from your head or to get it off the base,you're prolonging the life of the system & keeping the hair from oxidizing as fast plus when you soak the system in really hot water the extra benefit is the hair dry's supersoft I usually soak the base for a few hours.
When I attach w skin,it put the glue on the skin & when it goes clear I attach to my head,when I want to take it off,I roll it back to front,very gently,& all the glue stays on the skin,I always clean my scalp, & before I put it on,I spray 99%alcohol & just use the skin with the old glue,it looks invisible still & after A min or 2 the bond is nice & snugg,

Oh ok now i understand, the glue stays mostly on the skin, that makes sense. Sounds like this glue works very nice with skin. So far i have only tested the aleens glue on my hand and tried to clean it off my hand. it seemed a little difficult to get off my hand, same as any other glue, i ended up having to scrub it with alcohol. But maybe the hand is not such a good test. I will try it on my hair system tomorrow

Re: off 'n on glue

Thats a common issue with newer wearers. They over do the gluing. The fear of ti coming off is huge.

I have found putting Scotch tape on the poly base AROUND THE SIDES AND BACK and cutting ST-30 into thin strips over the tape makes clean up easy. I do use plain NexGEn on the temples and front though.

Today I decided to apply the Scotch tape and apply glue to the Scotch Tape.....We shall see how that works. The base gets a lot less stress from trying to pull of the tape (although the ST-30 seems easier) I can use the less expensive and stronger Blue tape on the Scotch Tape for even a tighter hold. NO WAY the Scotch tape will pull of the base in a Wind Storm. I ride a bike without a helmet and don't worry until after a week.

The downside is yeah it makes for an edge but I don't go all the way to the edge, I keep 1/4"- 1/2" of "flap" to keep the glue from seeping into the hair.

The new skin pieces may work with just glue and no tape they are so thin. Waiting for feedback

Re: off 'n on glue

February 5 2008, 12:14 AM

wiht the skin base,i put a real tiny thin dab & move it around with my index finger,honestly love it,virtually no mess,clean up is a breeze and like you I am extremely concerned of damage to the skin as a result of harsh chems and because I'm not using any chems I don't need to shampoo as much which saves so much hair from coming out as it is injected(in fact if I can I will shampoo every 2 weeks) I do still clean in very hot water once a week but only w very hot water,a dab of conditioner & a drop of mineral/baby oil i THINK THE OIL or the hot water after a few hours lifts the glue so I basically roll it off,or wipe it off,so far so good,like I said though I will keep an eye out for anything better cus I am picky dude

This appears to be the stuff Hairmiester mentioned, available in the USA:

http://www.save-on-crafts.com/ta.html

You can also get it at Jo-Ann's fabric stores and probably at Michael's craft supply stores, or buy it online at that link or even at amazon.com.

Correct spelling of the product name, so you can google it:

Aleene's Tack-It

However, there's also this variation:

http://www.save-on-crafts.com/tackyglue1.html

called "Aleene's Tacky Glue"

which may be a closer match to the Aussie stuff. But Hairmiester originally said it was "Tack it again (something like that)" in his post so that's what I looked for first.

Hairmiester, can you confirm which Aleene's product you have found to work? Is it "Tack-It" (green bottle), or "Tacky Glue" (brown bottle)?

Reason for my concern about the difference is that the first link for Tack-It mentions needing to use "rubbing alcohol" to remove it from surfaces once it has dried. I'm not sure that's the same as the Aussie stuff everyone is talking about.

Oh boy, there's a whole lot of variations of this Aleene's stuff:

Anyone who's bought and used this stuff successfully in Canada or the US, what does the bottle say exactly?

aileen's tack & tack again

March 22 2008, 4:14 AM

sorry about not getting to reply sooner, the glue I use is aileens tack & tack again(green label) I bought it at micheals crafts store in Canada(I have had the same bottle for the last 2-3 months ,last time i visited the store it was on back order but they have store all over Canada, Honestly I really like this product,it allows me to wear & can rebond in minutes as I just spray a little 99% onmy head & set(after a min it rebonds) ,I usually never have to use more(than what is on my system already) if I am using my skin base or base with poly as the glue thats left on them just rebonds,sometimes I do a quick touch up with a toothpick but very little,great hold & very easy to clean

Since I remove every night, this product sounds great. The question is has anyone just used it to retack tape that is already on the unit. This way you can get a second day out of your tape on the unit.

I have found that if you spray some 99% alcohol on your scalp & put your system back on with your old tape it re tacks,-works best with blue tape ,I use the glue for the front hairline as I like to wear my hair back from my face,again I normally get about a week out of daily reattaching,I actually wear A different system to my office during the day-more professional look,then when I get in ,will change to a different system-for a more adventurous look to have fun with work-out etc etc, I am telling you this to make the point about how well this glue works & how quick I can attach-5 min,I do spend about an hour a week cleaning-extremely hotwater,conditioning-nearly natural,then make sure I run ADF thru the system to keep the colour tones looking rite, very simple very quick .I am a firm believer that by keeping things simple you have a better chance of making the system look realistic-I always say-if you know I have system on,I really don't care as long as it looks great & I know it does,& I also know that no one has ever busted me on my hair -if it were to happen,it'll be because I didn't follow thru with maintenance get busy sometimes so you have to make sure you discipline yourself to following thru but remember keep it simple,it's easier therefore it will allow you to become more proficient in wearing.
