I used to just use ADF every month or two when I noticed some fade from being out in the sun, etc. But ever since reading Ian's post a while back to use it every washing things have just been incredible with the coloring. It just maintains a nice depth to the hair color and takes out those nasty tones that can pop up from time to time. My main concern in using it regularly was that it would gradually make the piece too dark, but it doesn't (in my case at least).
Anyway, I know this probably sounds like a paid infommercial, but I just wanted to post this in case it helps anyone else because I have had zero fade/tone issues in months....and this is the longest I've went with a piece without noticing some fade or tone problem. I know the name has changed recently because my new bottle is different, but I can't think of the new product name for some reason right now.
Very carefully! I do this while standing in front of the mirror in my bathroom. I wet my hair and then apply it making sure I don't get close to the base. Sometimes I apply it using a comb and sometimes I just use my fingers. I wait about 8-10 min. and then jump in the shower and rinse it out. I have never had a problem with it coloring the base. It does stain my hands but I spray a little 99 on them and after the shower it is gone.
