I have the new base TSA. I ordered 70% freestyle, straight hair with 1b color. Now, lets get the negative out the way first! The color is too light for 1b but ADF will sort that so Im moving on....
The base is skin like, but as thin as any Iv ever seen. Much like PSB but thinner and more pliable. Its best described as a latex feel. It disappears better than PSB when glued down well (I used BaseBond). Im not risking any tape on this one.
The hair is injected, and like other skins it lays quite flat..but...it does comb back and "sit up" more than previous skin bases. For long and straight hair and Women's styles its awesome. For men, I would keep it at 1.5 inch long (though Iv not cut mine in yet). I might keep this puppy long coz the hair quality is fantastic as always with any TopLace Iv had.
The ends of the hair that are injected seem to be bleached so you dont get that little line with dark hair that older skins have. However, dont quote me on this they just seem bleached, you will have to ask BA more on that.
Over all I would say its the best skin Iv seen and I think better than the Ilace (which I think are great anyway. I cannot see any shedding problems. Iv really combed it a few time and the hair is secured better than lace knots. Time will tell on that one but I dont shampoo the life out of mine unlike some...uhumm.
I'd give it a 8/10 with a full growing head of hair at a 10/10
Lace lovers will have to decided for themselves but Skin wearers will jump with joy!! The only issue I can see is the injected hair direction issue some have may not be fully resolved here, but Id still maintain its better than the PSB on that.
Scalp realism 10/10 hands down bar none. It looks like scalp, feels like scalp. When you part the hair its absolutely as a real scalp would appear on a normal head of hair. And non of that "rustling sound" skins often have. unless you have lots of stubble under it. As with skin bases, this will be at it best when skin on skin so to speak. If you dont it will make a noise anyway.
The front hair line is difficult to say. I dont do that brushed back style but if I had to I would have the density a bit lighter at the front as 70% is quite alot of hair, but for a fringe (Bangs!) its great. Remember its still not cut in and has 6inch of hair at the moment.
Oh and not to forget, the 10 day order service...mine was made in 10 days from order to BA's door. Then shipping took 4 or 5 days to the UK. If you hate waiting (I have gone insane waiting in the past), for me its a stock or 10 day service. Im not ever waiting 6 weeks again. When you think that bloke "Richard" charges $5000 for a wig and you still have to wait 6/8 weeks! TopLace have a fantastic deal here...in UK money, it cost about £140ish including shipping for a replica scalp! Amazing, just get the flipping color right next time !!!
wow chris this sounds great . ive only ever had one skin base and that was about 2 years ago it was not a toplace one and it was about 75 % and you could not see the scalp effect at all so ive never wore skin base since . but im going to give this a try sounds exciting
I'm glad they've found a way to eliminate those little dark lines that came with skin units.
Tell me, regardless of how the hairline is injected, how do you think this material compares to SFS lace when it comes to undetectability? Does it need at least a little hair in it to be completely invisible ? what about those few millimeters of bare skin that we usually leave in front of the hairline, how invisible is it when glued down properly
I gather from his response that the material is thin, it gives a nice feel and scalp look. Hair doesnt seem to shed as much and has a little more movement then usual, But still the front hairline does not look as good as lace. otherwise he would have said it right off the bat.
I already posted about the hairline on a previous post, Knotted hair pivots better than injected, But for some styles it dont make one bit of difference.
"But still the front hairline does not look as good as lace. otherwise he would have said it right off the bat."
Well, I also said that I hadn't cut it in yet! So when I do I can tell if its as good as this or that. But to be honest, Lace and Skin have their own properties, characteristics etc. I don't think its worth trying to compare. Horses for courses Id say.
What I will say, is My girlfriend's hair behaves more like a Skin piece than a Lace piece, and She has all he own hair! When She ties it back, she has to use clips because it grows in the same way Skins are injected and falls forward.
Please remember chaps....its still a wig and theirs no escaping it!
BA also says that a lot of times, but i dont really agree with that statement completely. these systems can look much better then a "wig". people on this forum have been proving it everyday. Jake, MB, BA, this guy, Stevel, snipe, and numerous others have really made it into a work of art. Dont let them kid you, as they realize there are problems wearing hair at times, and things might not be 100 percent 100 percent of the time. They do not have "ah this is just a wig who cares" attitude. They keep striving and adapting towards perfection. and u can see how great these systems can be when done right. Yeah its just a wig, but people are really making them spot on. thats why toplace systems of today look 100 times better then wigs of the past, cause someone believed its not just a rug and who cares. they aimed to better perfect it.
Yes mate but the hard cold fact is "Its a wig" I can make mine look so natural I nearly fool myself and I wouldnt be without hair, But I dont fool myself into beliving its anymore than a wig, And I dont care what anyone says, A wig has limitations and that comes from the plain fact it is something glued or taped to your head, They do not look 100% natural 100% of the time, Just the slightest bit of lace/skin lifting will make sure of that. Soon I am going to post photos of mine not looking so good, I will post photos with lace lift, Not styled, Not applied correctly,Etc,Etc, Because I dont care
about this work of art stuff, Its a wig, End of.
"They do not have "ah this is just a wig who cares" attitude. They keep striving and adapting towards perfection."
well, then its not surprising so many of you get so upset when its not perfect. A full head of growing hair is perfection, so as long as its a wig, its bound to fall short of perfection.
technology keeps improving, but if you cant enjoy the products "Now" and be happy "Now" when or how long are you willing to wait until a wig stops being a wig?
yes improvements are great and so are all the discussions and debate about improvements. But there must be some space, some time to enjoy the "Now" and go with whats on offer?!
other wise your spend the best part of your lives, when your healthy and alive, feeling miserable coz ya barnet's a bit bald. Is all that anxiety really worth it? to spend every day worrying if your wig looks "perfect"?
Im just glad to be alive and be able to walk, talk and smile! As for my hair, oh well lives a b**ch sometimes. but you could always go to Richard Farrell's shop cos he's got "undetectable" "systems".
Im sticking to TopLace wigs..cos thay are much cheaper and look just as good!
A full head of growing hair is perfection, so as long as its a wig, its bound to fall short of perfection.
I don't know about you, but my own growing hair never looked that great. IMHO, the systems themselves can look better than growing hair for many of us, provided the design, attachment & style are good. Yes, there can and will be imperfections here and there, but overall the systems look consistently better for me than my growing hair ever did.
I agree with Wesb , t I have less hair issues now that I wear a system then I did in high school struggling with my ratty hair.
yeah I agree with the posters above. It is a wig. And things arent gonna go smooth ALL of the time. I think its a balance between accepting that systems currently cannot be perfect all of the time, but also you have to strive for progress or do the best you can do as well. We have super fine swiss laces, bleached knots, remy hair, super thin skins, psbs, z14s, st30 tape, 64s. new 64s, durable 64s, ilaces and the list of new ideas and innovations goes on.
So all im saying is, dont be ridiculous and stress over one unbleached knot or be fanatical about wearing, but at the same time theres nothing wrong with striving for progress. And i believe that is something BA has always done and is continuing to do. Yeah its just a wig, but I think everyone would agree that when we step into the real world, we want to limit the "wig" aspect as much as we can. Thats the goal.

I think you are missing the point here fellas, You would never get busted with youre own hair would you now ? Even it it didnt look 100%.
Fact is you are attaching non growing hair to your scalp with tape or glue so you are wearing a wig whichever way you want explain it. Grasp that and understand it wont always act and look great 100% of the time, Then limitations that come with it are not such a big deal.
