I am 21 years old and I am going bald. It's pretty much a classic case of diffuse, and I don't entirely feel comfortable having a shaved head (I think I look better with hair). I'm very much leaning towards Toplace, but I'm unclear what the first steps are in achieving a perfect fit.
This is the evolution of my hairloss:
2005
2006
2006
2007
It has progressively thinned since that last picture (taken in july '07)
I'm concerned about color and texture matching, as I have a very slight wave to my hair, and I used to have a very strange cowlick in my hairline.
I'm mostly looking for that relaxed yet formal spiky look that it seems the forum member Jake has mastered relatively well.
Should I make a template, or order a stock piece, or both? Should I order MB's dvd? Is maintenance a problem for someone who is active (gym + swimming + outside).
Sorry for all the FAQ's but even browsing the forum there seems to be so many different options in terms of adhesives and tips and what not, that its difficult to assimilate all at once.

wow thats very dramatic hair loss for only a span of 2 years. Nonetheless I hear ya man...Iam also 21 and goin through same thing. But, life goes on...enjoy it...it could end without a notice.
I am 21 also and that's how I started...once you watch it you know exactly what you are in for and you are more clued up on how this actually works. It helps alot seeing a video of someone making a template, attaching a system, removing it, cleaning it, and filling your head with knowledge on what you want to embark on compared to embarking on it yourself without all the info.
After that, make your template and send it in feeling confident you have found a solution rather than hesitant if you have made it right or if this is the right step for you
I started losing at 16. By 19 I looked like I was 38 but sported this ugly HCM which got me through. You're smart to take action now. Others will not know you did something. They will just think you changed your hair style. You'll move forward without feeling the crushing blow of being young but looking old. You without a doubt can replicate your hair in that first pic. BA will give you a great match to start with and over time you'll tweak it until it's absolutely perfect.
I have to second the MB video advice. Get that first, then decide. As BA has often said the wig-wearing is not for everyone and MB's video shows what the reality of it is all about w/o the B.S. (B.S.=scientific talk for bull****).

Being honest, I understand your want for hair, but dude, you're good looking, got a nice head and I actually think you look great with your hair cropped like that, better than the 'do pics. I think the hot chicks might dig you more with that cropped look. Very European looking at that!
Dude you look good, so take the time and do some research here before you jump in because hair wearing can be a pain in the arse!
yeah bro just got yourself some concealer and your good, for now anyway. Concealer can do wonders for you, espcially because you have light colored hair so your scalp is not as visible to the naked eye. No doubt wigs look good, but like Snipe said they are a pain.
Well I have to agree with the others, you have a great look, I wouldn't get into the hassle of wearing yet. You really don't need it. Consider yourself very lucky man !
Yes its true there are a few very outstanding features here to note mate.
I can see that your hair got a little thinner and its never very nice for anyone but,
1) Your still very young indeed bless you at just 21. I am 35 now and i am still not wearing just yet thankfully!!
2) You have a very straight or close to it hairline, Ie: like David Beckham (The England Footballer) Its a good look for your hair however thin the texture is.
3) The advice given by many people on this forum is a true gods grace by many many good guys, like Klifford & Esnipe above i think its true.
I am only considering wearing because of my extremely high natural forehead & my U shaped natural hairline with the big temple recessions as well as my very very fine textured hair, which i think is pretty common in the Male Pattern Baldness. You though my friend have much time to consider this and just see how your pattern develops. Wait at your young age is my avice for now. You lighter coloured haired hair will look ok buzzed down close because of the close colour blend with your scalp. My hair on the other hand is nearly jet black!!
Good luck whatever you choose young man but PLEASE never ever get any hair surgery done because i have done it and you will regret the pain, and the scars, and the lack of results and the huge waste of your money until the day you are buried beneath your grave.
After more comments from others I do have to agree. You have a nice shapped head. You might be able to pull off the bald look which in the long run you may appreciate more. Wearing takes time and money...
I'm in the exact same situation you're in (just on the other side of the ocean) and I decided to do it. I've been doubting about it for 3 years, didn't do it because people including my parents, hairpiece companies etc kept saying no don't do it, but I want to do it so I'm doing it!!! And I wish I made that decision earlier (although I don't have the piece yet and I don't know if it really works out).
My point is: don't listen to anyone else just think it out for yourself. Make a list with pro's and cons or something.
Amsterdamboy, you don't even have a hairpiece yet so you are advising Brian based on your expectations of wearing. I just hope your expectations are realised when you receive your piece & begin wearing, unfortunately for some it creates more anxiety than the original baldness.
Quote "My point is: don't listen to anyone else"
Brian, I would strongly advise you to listen to others, especially the experienced wearers on this thread who are from what I can see giving you good advice.
If I was in your situation & looked like you I most definitely would not get a piece. The reasons why have been thoroughly covered by previous posts.
However, if you are being drawn towards hairpiece wearing you can always just order one & see if its ok for you, then if you don't like it put it away for later. I wouldn't commit myself mentally to wearing the piece for definite before it arrives, order it with the attitude of "just to see what its like & if it may be a option"
dude i dont wear yet either but like you im young with thinning hair and in the same boat. my advice would be not to listen to anyone but yourself on this. You could go either way, but the bottom line is if at the end of the day you're gonna feel better about yourself with a piece than I would go for it. I realize that I have the right attitude and mentality when wearing etc and mine just basically is I would rather have a nice looking piece than thinning hair period it's that simple. Just go for the piece see how it works out, and after that if it's not for you just ditch it. No harm in trying.
IMHO you would look sooo much better with nice, stylable hair.
To be honest it all depends on you. IF u are happy looking decent the way u are now, and not have to deal with wearing, then thats your choice. If you want to take your 'handsomeness' to the next level, sorry mate you need nice hair. Many ppl are deluding themselves on this issue, for 1 reason or another.
Regardless, I can only guess in a few more years you will lose even more hair, and look even older with the more noticeable hair loss.
We can only reap what we sew.
Effort plus determination with hairpieces = allowing you to look much younger and a lot more handsome. Much higher self esteem and receive more 'benefits' from society in many ways. Its a hard, cold fact.
Deciding to leave things as they are = looking less attractive, saves times on maintaining hair, most likely much lower self esteem. You will eventually have to just accept it and move on.
