Does the hair sit differently with a poly perimeter vs. all lace?

Hey guys,

Thinking about getting a lace piece with a poly perimeter. Just wondering if the hair on the poly perimeter appears any different than the rest of the piece.

Does the hair lie more flat with on the poly perimeter?

I wear the type of HP you are describing most of the year. For me it's ideal because it is easier to take on and off frequently because of the tape perimeter but it provides the natural lace front hairline I desire.

I find that the problem is not so much that the hair on the poly "lays" differently. But rather, the poly is detectable to the touch. So, if you are dating different people, you might find yourself explaining your hair situation more frequently. For me, I'm engaged. My girl knows what's going on up there. It's not an issue for me.

The other potential issue with this setup is that the poly can become detectable to sight later in the life of the HP after it begins to shed hair (ie, month 3 or 4). You can combat this by getting a hair add from a professional or getting another HP cut-in.

Finally, you need to find someone who really knows how to blend in HP's to your own hair (or become competent at it yourself). A novice may not leave enough hair along the perimeter area to properly conceal the poly over the life of the HP. Leading to shorter wear time and more hair cost per year.

But all in all, it is a low maintenance way to daily wear a HP and get a realistic hairline. I hope this helps.

I heard that hair on a skin piece is more fixed in its direction, like your real hair. You can match that direction with the lace hair, but it can also fall out of place and no longer match.

So lace is undetectable, but hard to clean, unless you use tape, which is a lot thicker than glue. Poly is very easy to clean, pretty good looking, but detectable to feel, at least according to this guy. I only have an all swiss piece.

I'm guessing it will be safe to use poly from ear to ear on a full cap. Women will mostly just feel the top and front. Cleaning the front will not be fun, but I'll have half the perimeter to clean that I currently do. I should still get a full poly perimeter back up just for daily wear when I want it easy.

I've worn poly perimeter pieces for years and had fairly good results with them. The advantages and disadvantages have been mentioned above. I recently switched to an all-lace #64 piece and I will probably never go back. I use ST-30 to attach the sides and back and glue on the front. Blending is easier and I no longer have the shedding problems that I had with poly after three months or so. Also, the "alcohol slide" method makes it easy to properly place the unit on your head.

Lots of people get 'trained' on poly back and sides because that's a standard for hair clubs. Once people break away from the hair clubs and start doing things themselves they acquire the skills to refine their attachment/removal techniques and many get away from the poly and go with all lace.

I would stay with all lace, but I hate the clean up. Fred says I just need to use less glue when putting it on, and use more alcohol when taking it off.

That and I don't like feeling the stickiness through the lace. Fred says I'm using too much glue. I think his French is just thicker and keeps his finger off the glue. I can feel the stick of ST30 through the Swiss, so he can't blame that one on me.

When I first took my all lace fullcap to a local salon that sells their own pieces to get it cut in the owner looked at it and said "You've been sold a dud here, there's nowhere to attach the tape at the front or perimeter, it'll never stay attached to your head and will pull all the hair out from underneath".

Yeah right, so much for Mr Expert in Hair Replacement.

You haven't been paying attention.
The current unit that I'm wearing (see the photos that I've been posting the last couple of weeks) is all SFS.
