Template making process: Newbie needs help!

HI everyone,

I just followed this website's instructions and made my first template.
However, it seems that after applying the 3 layers of tape on the plastic wrap, the latter has shrunk of a few millimeters: my template would need approximately 4 extra millimeters (width) to fit the inital design.
So my question is: if I keep that template, will my hairpieces (all 64 or all SFS, but all lace anyway) be able to stretch out a bit so they can match perfectly the balding areas?
Or do you, gentlemen wearers, always send perfectly adjusted templates (+/-1mm accurate)?

Thanks for your help

Gentleman_wearer: don't take any chances by relying on the stretching of the lace units. Yes they stretch a bit but it shouldn't be to make up for a too small of a template.

Get your template right so that you start the right way.

And it's easier to deal with a too big of a lace unit (by trimming it down to your liking) than with a unit that is too small.

Hi Hans,

thanks for your prompt reply.
My lazy self wished that it wouldn't be necessary to make the template all over again, but I'd be really silly to mess with my first order!
I don't have tape anymore at home, so I'll postpone this important step until tomorrow.

I also came up with that question because I think that I came across some threads dealing with the lace stretching.

Thanks again.

Yes, it's worth the time to keep making your template until you get one that seems exactly right.

TIP- Just lay the tape onto the plastic stretched over your dome gently without pulling or stretching the tape. It's less likely to shrink up, etc. after you remove it this way.

You actually DON'T want to have to stretch the lace of your piece... you want the size and curvature such that it lays nicely over your head without any bubbles or ridges and without stretching. Once you start stretching, you affect the overall shape and the fit won't be right.

Thank you NYWig, your tip does make sense and it should solve my little problem.
I guess that my newbie's questions have been asked dozens of times already but it's good to see how people are still helpful on this forum; it helps me to go through this experience with a stronger confidence. Thanks!

Hi BA,

thanks for your help;
I finally achieved to make a nice template; I've feathered the hairline and put a small widows peak. I also drew an appropriate crown whorl.

As BA is gone for the week-end, can someone please tell me what are all these contours meant for, ie. AA, CC, etc. ?

I want to attach a hair sample to my order, should I take one from the back of my head and one from the side? The texture is the same but the caliber is not (the same for almost everybody).
Bloody newbie's questions! lol

For the moment, I know that I will order:
- All 64 x 2 (next time I'll pick a SFS)
- ST-30 tape
- BaseBond... or I-glue? I actually don't know the difference.
- Lace Release

...mmmm, what else? probably MichiganBaldy's video. Something to get rid of the redness which can appear with time. Something to clean my scalp. A good conditioner and a good brush.

Will I be good with that list? Or am I missing something important?

look above at the diagram BA gave you....the CC and A etc are shapes. just pick a shape you like.
you could have, for example, a C curve in the back and an A curve in the front.
