seems the longest I can get from a piece is 3 weeks. The one I have now is the best I ever had, but the front is shedding. I have done the following over the past few or so months:
Purchased water filter for shower
only wash once a week, but wet it everyday
-I use a spray in conditioner and maybe a little bit of gel
-when removing I let the alcohol sit until the piece just comes detached from the piece and the tape is stuck on my head and not the piece
on weekends i will wear a hat a lot, could that be the problem?
so I have to change pieces this weekend and its only been 2 weeks and I love this one
any suggestion? something wrong with what I am doing??
I wear a hat all the time and mine dosent shed.Try not to brush it wet blow dry it 1st and when you sleep use a satin or silk pillowcase. I also dont let the shwoer hit my hair i always use a bowl to rinse my hair if im washing it while showering and pat it with towel after.
blow dry it, I dont think that is good for even real hair. I also dont let the shower hit my hair, but I spray it with filtered water in one of those plastic bottles. Its a fine mist so that cannot possibly do any harm.
sometimes problems can be much more difficult
to solve when they are a trickle, rather than a
torrent.
3 weeks is the most extreme I've ever heard of.
I could tell it was the piece drying out and getting
brittle by the vast difference in ease of plucking hairs
when first getting the piece (very difficult) to after
a few weeks (very easy). That difference was due to
drying out, the culprits being sulfate shampoos and
chlorinated water. The shampoo and water filter together
helped immensly.
In your case, it's hard to say, 3 weeks is an amazingly
short time. Since you say it's in the front, then
that's a clue. You could be over-brushing, but it's still
hard to imagine. Perhaps you are somehow pulling hair
through the base.
with that much shedding, there would be tell-tale signs
you should be able to see where you're leaving hairs.
the reason is simple. hd is bying from a supplier, deticated to mass quantity, not quality, therefore the hit or miss, which is alway's been and will be hair direct's way. they probably pay less than 40 u.s dollar's to the factory, so it's not much of a loss if they have to remake it or refund it, since the mark up and their (sop) standard order procedure, is
an out right joke, you pay differant prices for te same piece, according to a plan, just like being in a club,,,,,

I have pieces that have shed like crazy, and others that hold up what seems like forever.
My two full caps I have now....the first one is losing a lot of hair, the other one is holding up great. The only difference between the two are the fact that I lightened the first one MORE and with different bleach Actually the first one was done by my stylist using professional bleach mixed with shampoo, so I doubt it's that), which could have something to do with it. The second one I did at home but didn't get it as light.
Point is, I've had systems in the past that I treated identically shed at different rates, some VERY rapidly. And it's usually the ones where the hair feels driest after a short time, so I'm assuming it's the difference in the quality of the hair from one to the next. I'm sure it varies.
When I wear hats for Golf, my hair will shed alot faster because it rubs and flattens the front down. So I use different pieces when I wear HATS. Also Knot Sealer is a MUST in the Front area.
I have a similar issue but not to the point where I only get 3 weeks out of it. I can typically get 6-7 weeks max.
1) knot sealer really didn't work for me. It could have maybe given me 2 more weeks than what I normally get but certainly didn't extend it all that much if at all.
2) Are you itching your unit/scalp in the front area? I found I was doing this a few times a day... it adds up. At about 3 weeks your hair is going to be dryer than it was when you first got it. Itching + dry hair = breaking the hair shaft.
3) I sometimes have thought that how tight the knots are could play into it. But I have no way to test this out.
To help with my problem I've recently gone the filtered water route but it's only been a few weeks so I can't say for sure if that has corrected the problem. I still see hair in the sink and on my hands when I wash the unit so I dunno... I feel your pain though.
I also just used Nearly Natural for the first time. It without a doubt does somethign to your hair but I'm not sure what. by the ingedients on the bottle it looks like what they are attempting to do is put into your hair what the humab body would normally put into it. I again really can't tell if it's help yet because I need to see this latest unit through to the end. I too wish I could get a unit to last 4 months or more. That would be great.
I have to second what Tony said....wearing a spare or older piece when wearing a hat is the best way to go in my opinion too. After all, you are just covering it up anyway and why risk losing hair from the friction?
