who knows how to handle a 3/4 cap

Hi guys,

So I finally got my piece. I'm thrilled it can be soooo realistic!!!! It's great to have hair.

But I'm having a hard time getting it attached right. It's a really big piece, going from ear to ear and very far to the back, almost ear-height. I made curves in it to match my density which was really stupid I realise now because it's harder to attach, I should have made it in a straight line so I could use tape easier. I tried glue but the stuff got in my hair etc and it was really hard to get off, I spend hours getting it off with pure and lace release. Very annoying.

Also I (or actually my mother) shaved too much so I kind of have a bald spot. That's not a disaster because I have long hair and I just brush over it.

Anyway, I watched BA's video, and his method of attaching is just not possible for me. I can't put all the glue on my scalp first because it will drie before I'm finished. I can't hold everything up and start with the front because it's too big. I can't tack it down right the first time the lace touches my skin because it's too big.

What I tried after the glue disaster, is first tape everything on the back (which was really hard because it has these stupid curves), than spray alcohol on the tape so I have time to attach the back right first and roll up the front, put glue on where the hairline is going to be, than roll down and push the lace on the glue. That is the best method I came up with but it still sucks because the tape is not really useful on the back because of all the curves, and I can't cut the lace in a straight line anymore because I already shaved too much of my own hair. Also it's still hard to get the front right because I first attach the back, and than the front might be a little bit oblique. And I still have the problem that if I roll it down after I put glue on my scalp where the hairline is going to be, the whole front line touches the skin at once, that's hard to prevent. I tried it but it's almost impossible.

So does anybody know a better method to attach this really big piece??

Sorry if I'm being long.

Best regards!!

amsterdamboy, heres the advice you were given back in October 2007 by the most experienced posters on this forum, before you ordered :

"I don't think you need to cover that much area judging by the photos...a small partial in the front seems to be all you would need" (Debbie)

"you will only need a partial, Dont even think of shaving any of that hair off at the back.
Regards BA."

"All you need there is a little dermatch" (Xeon)

"Man, I would love to have your sides!! If I had them, I wouldn't be attaching a hairpiece over them at all... use them, they are good sides!!" (ColinC)

You totally ignored this advice & now you're having difficulty getting this large piece to work for you.
Its just history repeating itself, highly educated newbies thinking they know better than experienced wearers, ignoring advice & getting over complicated, with the vision they WILL have the best piece ever, & you know what so often for these people the results are always the same ...

There is nothing wrong with wanting the hair of a 20 year old. Just because your sides look 60 and you wish you had his that look 40 does not mean he is dumb for shooting for 20. It just means he took on a big challenge and has his work cut out for him now.

Fact is, if you guys recommended he use Dermmatch, that means the sides WERE too thin. Dermmatch is pathetic and you all know that. It is a last resort for people who are afraid or too poor to wear. I'm too lazy to put on my lace piece every day, but I can vouch it is a lot less time consuming and much better looking than Dermmatch.

...

Wear a thin beany till your hair grows out, and cut that back straight. And if you have trouble with lift like I do, consider getting a super thin skin perimeter under the lace like I'm going to do. All lace is for the experts.

Yeah thanks shaun that's really helping.

I don't regret taking a 3/4 cap, the hairs on my sides didn't grow longer than 2 cm while the rest of my hair is 10 cm!!

And ofcourse I want to look 20 because I AM 20.

I just asked for some directions from other 3/4 cap wearers...
