How long do you need for attachment?

Well, as I'm a newbie - and as I'm still using a piece that doesn't fit exactly! (wrinkle issue although trying to stretch to fit) - I still need quite a lot of time for removal und reattachment - even with the help of my girlfriend it takes us:

- some minutes for removal (inlcuding letting Lace Release sit for a while)
- up to 45 minutes to get rid of tape/glue residue on scalp (including showering and washing hair afterwards, until everything is gone). I'm testing different glues for the front, while using No Residue Tape (NRT) around the rest of the perimeter. However, on the scalp side (after wearing for 7-10 days at a time and showering daily) the NRT leaves a reasonable residue on the scalp side (on the lace side it's okay)... Is that because of my daily showers or the 7-10 days of wearing or both? Or simply unsuitable body chemistry?
- 10 minutes for the SFS unit to mirror-slide, shampoo and condition... (then letting it dry, or help with a gentle blow dryer on the lace side).
- 5 minutes for shaving my rest hair
- up to 10 minutes for glue at the front
- almost half an hour to get the rest (from front to back) attached suitable without causing tooooo many wrinkles. We attach the NRT to my scalp, not to the unit b/c we once tried with tape at the unit first, but that made the bad fitting even worse!
- 10 minutes of corrections and touch-ups.

That's a total of about 2 hours, but ONLY IF I don't allow myself to take a break in between. Horrible, isn't it? 2+ hours of hairpiecing isn't affordable as a daily routine

Btw, I wear a very, very thin SFS unit (maybe 45% in Toplace terms), long male style (6-9 inches), dark brown, light wave.

I bet most of you guys are way faster. And I want to learn how you do it. I even got MB's DVD, it looks so easy there. Possible reasons for needing so long in my case:

1. unit doesn't fit well, has to be streched and gets wrinkles.
2. I have a regardable amount of rest hair at the front
3. I even left about 1/2 inch of my natural front untouched to get a very natural hairline there. But I come to the conclusion that it sucks: My natural density there is about... hmmm... 35% percent? Or even less. And I wanna go for 55% TL pieces soon. So the transition is to abrupt. I'll have to shave my front complete, I guess. Now, with remaining own hair at the front (and a non-suiting unit) I always have to start with the front first, to get it aligned with the rest. And even then, I find it VERY difficult to get the right place and neither leave a gap nor get 1/16 inch of my own hair under the lace.
4. daily showers with unit on, up to 10 days wearing time (makes NRT messy?)

So, how long do you need for an attachment?

Maybe you could answer this form in short terms:

a) Complete removal + reattaching time. Altogether!
b) frequency of removal routine
c) specs of the hairpiece
d) tapes/glues/solvers used
e) How much experience do you have with that? (newbie or senior wearer?)

Thanks in prospect!!
Luca

Luca;
where do you live? is there any way you can get to a convention?
it really should not take you 2 hours so I would love to spend some time with you and perhaps even your girlfriend to help you get this straightened out. with a little "show and tell" I'm sure we can make this more efficient for you.

Hey Debbie,
I live in Germany, and I would have loved to come to the UK convention. Unfortunately, I will - as it seems form today - have no time at all for coming to the UK then

But don't you think it could get better when ordering a better piece or simply don't letting the unit sit so long at a time on my head? The way it is now, it is some kind of vicious circle: Knowing I'll need up to 2 hours or more with each removal/reattachment, I really can't afford these days to try it on a daily routine (but maybe it wouldn't last that long if I did it daily, however, the wrinkle issue would remain, and I'm GLAD each time I get the unit on w/o too many wrinkles. Well, a bit frustating, for sure)
