I just wanted to post this after seeing MacMike's issues with not being able to cut the excess lace to his liking. What I do is take the piece and turn it over, making sure the hair is folded under the piece and pulled away from the excess lace. Then I just put it on a styrofoam head and put pins all the way around it right where the edge of the hair is (to hold it back from the bare lace) and you have BOTH hands free to hold the lace and cut with your scissors.
You just do one half of the piece and then flip it around and pin the other half and repeat. It hardly takes any time at all and you can get very precise with how much extra lace you want to leave. Just my way of doing it if it helps anyone.
