i must be doing someting wrong

hair gets dry and fake looking after a few weeks

I do not:
use unfiltared water when cleaning it
do not shampoo all the time, only once a week

these things seem terrible. I have spent thousands on toplcae ( i must have at least 50 pieces from them)

i wish BA or John would send me a sample that would help me with this.
hat
the hair becomes like a wirebrush after about 3 weeks. that i was not worried about. I did not really notice it until I saw a pic taken of me at work. It looks terrible.
i would like a sample of something that might be good for me. im about to just rid it off and the F--- with it

Just use nearly natural, and put in a little extra conditioner. Leave it to stand for 10 minutes, and don't rinse the hell out of it!

I shampoo once per week, but I use a non-harsh shampoo with no laureth/lauryl sulfate.

Some people have mentioned silicone spray - anyone know where Harry can get some?

try alternating two pieces every time you reattach, put on a fresh clean one and give the other one a break. clean it and put some conditioner on it and allow it to "rest" while your wearing the other.

Maybe look into leave-in conditioner, light styling gel or something that adds shine (i.e. the appearance of oil) to your hair. You don't have to use a ton of it for it to make a pretty big difference. I shampoo every day and a little leave-in conditioner eliminates that dry/straw look for me. Gotta remember, you're probably wearing some asian girl's severed hair and there aren't any natural oils on it. I know someone else who wears and doesn't wash his very often. He's always got that dry/hay look going on. I'm just not sold on the idea that washing less does anything great for the appearance of hairpieces (unless you've got really hard water). But, I know there are plenty here who disagree with that. I've been wearing my current piece for about a year and a half. I've bleached it, dyed it, adf'd it, artec'd it, washed it daily, put all kinds of products on it, and it still looks pretty decent. I don't think you can just strap one on and hope for the best. You gotta put some effort into maintaining it and finding out what works for you. Having someone send you hair samples isn't going to solve anything.

you got to wash more than once a week,
that dry ratty look you are getting is because
the piece is dirty, daily airborn dust ,dirt, build's up.

They always get dry... that's what you get with dead hair and no natural oil source. The thing you have to do is what others suggested to try to (sort of) keep up by frequent use of conditioners, etc. to keep it a little softer. But, this should be a reason for them to look especially fake. Are you sure you don't have too much density?

Simply not true. I seldom wash (with shampoo) my units.
I mean really rarely, like once every 4 or 5 weeks, if that.
I don't use any product, other than some leave in conditioner sometimes and have no problems at all. The units are rinshed sometimes when I remove them, sometimes not.
