Hesitation

I had my first template made today.

I was told that in order to wear it I have to shave off most of the hair on top of my head.

I'm hesitant about doing so because I feel like the top of my head is still alright in terms of density. Should I just take the plunge and do it?

All you need is a tiny partial, you have excellent coverage on top. I would completely disagree with the advice you were given to shave all your top hair off. Just my opinion.

Should I alter my template in any way? I paid to have it done. I don't want to do it again.

If the front hairline is ok, you should be able to cut the front off - say to about 3" width or so, then gradually cut it down to meet with your current hairline. You'll end up with a sort of "bat wing" shape, several folks here have worn partials like this. I agree that your top and crown seem to have good coverage. It's possible that you might want to shave a few odd hairs in the front to get a smooth join.

Dear Felix,
One important thing to know:
Most of your Hair on the top is on the last life(cycle) for a few years.
If you shave all, and want to go back, all hair will not regrow.
I did it, believe my experience.

Man, you can do a lot with the hair you've got. Just grow the top out a bit long and start parting it to either side. You don't need a piece at all.

A partial as someone mentioned, (eric?), would best serve you now, I think, but depends on how that hair looks wet too, post some wet photos, as there may come a time you wish to use gel. The partial will give you a full front, while making use of your sides and back, and if you do not lose any more hair, which is possible, some patterns of baldness work this way, I have a friend who is now almost 36 and his hair is pretty much exactly like yours. You can get a feel for wearing via partials, without having to cut all the existing hair off, and dealing with as much blending or coloring as you would with a full topper.

Also as someone pointed out, you are probably in the last stages of losing, if that is the case, and to prevent future issues of transition, so people dont know you ever lost your hair, it might be best to get the full topper...wetted hair can really make the difference in photos too.

Additionally, your hair now, I say get it cut short, not longer as someone else mentioned and get a messy kind of trendy look, I think you would like it and would work well for you with the hair you have.
