Question for JRob and Full Cappers

JRob.

I've seen your full cap pics, looks great.

I'm a college student, live in my fraternity, use a topper and want to make the transition to full cap. Sick of thin hair on the sides and having to straighten in order to blend into the system better and acheive thicker appearance.

How often do I have to perform maintanence on it? AND Can I wear a hat with a full cap?

I'm an avid extreme sports person, however find myself avoiding mountainbiking, skydiving, snowboarding without a hat to not have the length of the topper hair on the sides blow up and reveal the perimeter. Swimming has become something i've avoided as well.

With full cap, I beleive I can accomplish avoiding this problem but I would like someone elses advice, so please respond.

I wear a hat several times a week with my full cap, no prob.

If you are into sports and stuff I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the freedom a full cap allows you.

- No more worrying about the "transition"

- The hair looks more natural when wet

- The attachment is SUPER secure

- Lots of other benefits, including the ability to leave the piece at home whenever you want and not look like Bozo the Clown

I would recommend starting with a medium length, comb forward style, and order low density on the top and sides (unless your specific situation calls for something different).

I had a woman pulling my piece HARD a couple of weeks ago, and with the full cap attachment I didn't sweat it at all. Traco had mentioned in the past how secure a full cap is, and now I know he's 100% correct.

As for how often you have to do maintenance.....personally I have to remove every few days because I have a skin condition on my scalp and if I don't shave my existing hair every few days it gets to be a red, itchy mess. I'm looking forward to my next order with all skin perimeters to help out in this area.

As for you, it's hard to say. Full caps take a little extra maintenance time, but overall it isn't too bad. Considering you spend less time fiddling with color matching, blending and such it's probably a wash out.

I can't find a glue of tape that will give me more than about a week, despite my skin issues, but if you can find an adhesive that will give you a longer attachment I see no reason why you couldn't g longer if you so choose.

I understand. sounds great although I didn't quite understand the whole bozo the clown thing ha.

No girl I've hooked up with or people in the house I live in know of my hair replacement (trying to keep it that way), but once to twice a week i'm usually replacing the strip in the front of my topper.

If the full cap is secure, stays on tight, and only needs change once a week. No problemo.

I usually wear my hair about 1 1/2 - 2 inches long all over (including) sideburns. This will sound lame but I wear it messy/spiky/ tyler durdenish whatever.

With a full cap is it possible to acheive the same appearance?

That style would be easy to pull off with a full cap. The one I have on my head would look a lot like that if it had a bit less curl.

I see no reason why you wouldn't get the same attachment time with a full cap as you do the topper. Depending upon your template design you will have some touch ups to do at the nape in between, but otherwise it isnt much different than a topper.

Yes, full caps are extremely secure and avoid many of the issues that come with a topper as JRob has pointed out.

Hat wearing is no problem and sports including swimming are fine. I'm currently wearing my new Ilace with 2 inch SFS front, graduated SFS temple points and full SFS sideburns. This is the first full cap I got made using a template (all former ones were from measurements) and it fits like a glove.

I am finding that I can secure the full cap pretty much by anchoring down the sideburns well. I use the full cap sideburns, not my own, and if you pull them down tight then glue or tape them securely it pulls the whole thing tight over the head, including the temples and front hairline. In fact I'm now using only a very tiny strip of Off N' Glue across the very edge of the hairline, applied with a toothpick.

At the back I use a strip of tape and let the full cap hair fall into a small strip of my own remaining hair which gives a great back hairline.

also.

how does anyone feel about farrell hair systems. i'm not too worried about price however that will be a factor of course.

just the quality, realism, and maintanence. i'm a college student, share my apartment with 4 dudes however I have my own room.

hopefully someone can answer some questions i've tended to get some anxiety over.

and not to sound big headed, i've always made the topper blend in well and but i'm sick of mainatenance trips to HCM and all. I Want to take care of it myself and further increase procreation ha.

Temple Points

Traco....how do you like your sfs temple points? I wear an all sfs full cap and have had a hard time getting the temple points to look just right. Are you using glue for the points? Do you comb the temple points back?

Yea, a great thing I have noticed about full caps is that you can attach them at strategic points and forget about others (such as above the ears) if you don't care about undetectability to touch. Of course this also depends on your cut and style.

Lately I have been putting three pieces of tape across the back and a little CP cream glue at the sideburns and peak of the hairline. That tacks it down to where its not going anywhere, and since I wear it combed down the edges don't have to be perfect. Lets me remove easily daily or every other day, then if I need a secure attachment like on the weekends I go all the way with a full attach.

Yes, I do use a very small amount of glue to keep the very edge of the points down - Off N' On cream glue is my preferred option.

My hair's reasonably long at the sides with 60 - 65% density; temple points tend to be brushed back at an angle of about 45 degrees. I did modify the shape of them slightly from the template to make them less pointy, though I did this with the full cap attached using two mirrors to get a more accurate picture.

I agree they are a tricky bit to get right. I find myself studying others with real hair in person, pictures, on TV to see how theirs are formed. Not all guys have distinct temple points of course, those that do have varying degrees of sharpness and pointyness, and some have sweeping cuves from the points into the sideburns or temple recession area.
