From Ultrahold to BaseBond...my experienceMay 29 2008 at 9:37 PM | gel (Login jeffsxyz) |
| I have tried all the cream glues including CP cream glue, I-glue and the glues prior to that. I became an ultrahold user for the past 4 years and have used it exclusively for front lace. I ordered base bond a year ago and took a look at it, sniffed it, and threw it in a box thinking it was just another Elmer's type glue and thought it would never work for me. Well, two weeks ago I tried it on the front lace of a new piece using the 3 coats I had been instructed on this forum to do. It is shiney on day one but by day two it dulls nicely. The hold is great so far for 4-5 days which is fine for me. The clean-up is much better than ultrahold and in fact it rolls off the lace and scalp with a rub. One downside I have noticed is some small white specs of glue which tend to trap at the front edge despite cleaning...but they can be removed with a little more effort. I haven't been on the jetski yet with this but that will be the real test as I get pounded with wind, salt water and waves. I still use blue liner around the perimeter and put up with the glue melt down if I go over 4.5 days. The other thing I tried this time is leaving 1/6th inch lace free of hair in the front...lace looks much better this way for me as I always used to cut right up to the hairline and often got hair pasted flat into glue rather than the "growing from the scalp look".
sometimes it helps to dig out old glues or tapes you poo poo'd or gave up on years ago for a fresh try.

My experience is Base Bond won't hold for more then a day and is a pain in the a...to clean off..only good thing about it is the quicker drying time..but since it doesn't hold worth a lick and painful to clean out of lace who cares..if you got 4-5 days of hold that is truly a miracle..Ultra Hold much longer hold and believe it or not easier to clean..which does not say much for Ultra Hold..but less for the mess of Base Bond..This is my experience at least.. |

it's odd how some glue's work great for some and not other's, ultra hold for me is scalp infection in a bottle, basebond seem's to be the one for me so far, even with my extreamly oily head, i can't figure it out but at this point i don't want to.and clean up for me with bb is about 2 minutes at most |
