I have been trying to do my own attachments but keep messing the back up. I try to align the front but when i start to place it down i always end up over-running the back of the piece. The lace at the back ends up sitting on my real hair- about an inch at least so i am way off. any advice on what i should do?
I have one of those but i find when i am tacking my piece down i have to tilt my head which messes it up. i think i am just useless at attachments. is there any other tips you can give me?thanks
Sounds like your hairpiece is too big. I almost typed "your unit is too big" but thought the better of it! Seriously, though, if you've got your front hairline where you want it, and it's overlapping your hair in the back, then I'd say trim it down a little bit. Mine's not always "perfect" in the back (usually a wee bit too small) but I have a longer style, so it's really not an issue.
Question - Are you stretching your piece when you apply the back? when I first began to attach, I used to stretch the piece to much as I was paranoid that I may be to short at the back and therefore it overlapped my own hair.
My advise will be as follows;
place the piece without any glue or tape exactly where the hairline should be and check the back placement with a mirror.
Now is it still overlapping? if yes then the piece may be to big, if not then you may be stretching it to much when applying.
If you are streching it to much then on your next attachment stretch less.
It should be relatively easy if the piece is a good fit.
Raj, i think the problem is that i dont know exactly where the piece should be at the front. The salon i went to for my cut in has cut the lace right up to the hair all the way round. This means when i try to mark with a pen on my head where the front edge of the lace is, hair keeps getting in the way so the mark is never in the same place twice. quite stressful. how should i line up the front, whats the best way? thanks
First line up the hairline, either 3 or 4 fingers from your eyebrows or somewhere in between. You need to decide what looks the most natural for you, there is no hard and fast rule.
Mark with a pen. now place your piece on your head with no glue and see if the hairline is correct to what you have marked and that it looks right.
Now apply glue or tape and spray alcohol only at the back of the piece. Now apply the piece, front first and when the piece is seated lift the back of the piece up and fold it in half (hair towards you)The back will not stick as you have applied alcohol but the front will.
Wait for about 30 seconds for the alcohol to evapurate and now get a rear view mirror and then apply the back exactly where it should be without overlapping hair.
