to do the alcohol slide, you simply get drunk and start to dance. It's often done at weddings. j/k, you mean the mirror slide? I believe this site has instructions, and MB's video shows ya how. I believe his mirror slide demo is available on youtube as well.
The alcohol slide is referred to applying glue or tape to your scalp or if applicable to your piece and then squirting alcohol on the tape/glue to allow a few seconds for allignment.
This does not weaken the glue if you apply just a a couple of squirts.
I use it all the time and it gives me 20 seconds to fidlle with the piece while it is on my head and get it in place exactly where I expect it to be.
Just apply glue or tape as you would normal and then when it has dried and you are ready to apply the piece to your head, squirt alcohol to either your scalp or your piece and start placing the piece, the alcohol will evapurate within 30 seconds so make sure when the piece is alligned you start presisng the piece hard on your head to create a firm bond.
Be careful if you are using ST30 as this does not seemt o work very well with alcohol, for all other methods this works well.
BTW - The other form of alcohol slide (dancing and sliding at a wedding) is probably more fun:)
Thanks folks. Raj- i have squirted alcohol on my piece and attached it this way but i seem to get a shorter attachment in this way. I am not sure if this is due to the alcohol slide or my poor glue spreading. should i squirt the alcohol on my piece or actual glue or does it not matter?
also when you do the alcohol slide- do you still tack the piece down as MB does in his video or do you plop it on your head and just slide it about until it looks right? thanks
Only apply a couple of squirts of alcohol, do not drench it or the glue or tape will not bond. I normally apply to the piece but have to the scalp as well as I have find no difference with the bonding time.
The key is that once the piece is applied and the alcohol has evapurated you need to press the piece down hard to make the bond. I normally place a towel on my head and grab the 2 sides of the towel really hard for 1 minute. This then creates the bond.
I put the tape on the piece first and then spritz both my scalp and the tape with 99% alcohol - then apply the piece. I use this with ST-30 and it works for me. It must be 99% or the bond will not be as good. 70% alcohol has almost 30% dilution with water and this can cause problems. It is important that all of the oils have been removed from both your scalp and the piece before application.
thanks folks. one last point to confirm- when i spray the alcohol, should i just put all of the piece down on my head and slide it about until it loks right? or should i attach like Mb and others by having the back of the piece flipped over and tacking down the front first? thanks
