I have an SFS piece that I received over a year ago. The first thing I did was set the piece on top of my head to check if it was big enough to cover my balding pattern. It overlapped my own hair on the sides and back by more than an inch.
The only things I have done is washed and colored the piece and trimmed the front hairline less than 1/4" in the very front. I didn't trim the sides or the back of the unit. Now I am about an inch short from covering my balding area in the back.
Either I have made a mistake or the piece has shrunk some. Is that possible?
although I do believe that some pieces can shrink SOME if washed in very hot water and blow dried alot, I would think it is more likely in this situation that your bald spot got larger in a years time.

It should stretch when you attach it. I think it could still be a good piece. try just taping it on the front and stretching it toward the back and It just may fit.

Re: Can a lace piece shrink after washing

This topic has been discussed many times before. Try doing the google search technique that Snipe showed us.
I think the the lace can shrink a little over time. But in your case, I think your bald spot grew. My bald spot grew more and more that I got tired of constantly outgrowing my hairpieces and constantly making new templates. That's part of the reason I made a template for a full cap. As long as my head doesn't grow, I shouldn't need to go any bigger on my pieces.
