best way to taper very short???

June 20 2008 at 10:44 PM

For those who like to cut their own growing hair buzzed very short (less than 0.5 inch) at the edge of the nape and the bottom of the sides, what is the best way to get this taper? Robocutter, clippers with attachments, some other method? Any tips?

a buzzer. I think the best way is a buzzer and a comb. Thats how the stylists do it. but its too hard for me to do, plus i dont have that extra mirror. i only have one hand for the mirror one for the buzzer. But u can use those buzzer guards.

With a robocut by a long shot. Dino, remember I had short hair in New-York and now (especially in summertime) my hair above my ears and on my nape is totally buzzcut and I don't even need a mirror, I cheated a robocut angled attachment so that it can cut totally short and it's set for perfection and I just go around.

And it's so clean too!!!

If you want your sides tapered and cut tight, just go to a barber and tell him to just trim what you want and don't touch the top.

I'm sure you won't be the first or the last hairpiece wearer he's had in his chair. Besides, as a hair stylist myself, having to do half the work is always nice!

Haha Dino, yeah we speak different languages

What I meant is that I "adjusted" an angled attachment belonging to the robocut by cutting it down so that it can cut the hair even shorter. I saw (cut) it so that the bottom 1/4 can make a buzz cut, it sure cuts close to my skin but I have been careful not to make it dangerous hehe...

I'll be at the September convention in Windsor and I'll bring this attachment with me and I think BA has a robocut so that I can show how it works on my own hair for those who are interested so that an important matter could be settled once and for all for those who want to do it alone at home. Me and Debbie already discussed this here on the forum, there will always be people who prefer to have it done by a super pro like her and that's a great way to do it, it's their personal preference but those who want to get themselves a haircut (real hair and hairpiece) may never want to use scissors, razors, combs or any other tools that require mirrors and clean-ups after I show them something.

I cut my hair mostly once a week (sometime bi-weekly) with one robocut attachment without mirror and it now takes me less than 4 minutes and it always looks like I just came out from a hairdresser. And my hair is not the same length all over, ooooh no, tha's the thing with the 'angled attachment' and I start buzz cut right above my ears and on my nape and I work it gradually longer and longer as I go up until the middle top of my head where my hair is at its longest.

Last time I emptied my robucut was more than a year and half ago so it's a 2 year clean-up only !!! And I'll show how it can be done without mirrors of any kind.

I believe in freedom in everything.... in the hair cutting too I just don't want to depend on anybody.

Hans

Xeon: give me your email so that I can send you several real life pics taken of me at random over the last couple of weeks.

You'll see what a robocut and some inspiration can do !

Dino, watch out for robocutters...they BITE sometims when doing hair on skin (nape neck) rather than over bone (skull), The vaccume can suck the loose skin closer to the guard and blades and give an unexpected VERY short iregular cut. Clippers and mirrors are easier for me.

Oh yes I remember those pics, they are from 2005 and one is from the 1st Toplace convention in NY.

I got better with my robocut technique since then, 3 years is alot of time to improve ourselves in many fields.

Xeon, I can still send you very recent pics taken from me by others (outside & inside) in unexpected ways so that you'll get the whole picture. Dino, you too.

Xeon & klifford: I won't have time today but tomorrow for sure I will send you several recent pics that will give you the overall picture.

On the above 2 pics, I also only used 'robocut', no scissors, no razor, no razor-comb, no mirrors of any kind and... no cleaning.

Haha.. I insist alot on the cleaning because I realized that one of the reasons why I'm always looking forward to my haircuts it's becauae I don't see any single strand of hair falling on the floor

Also, I like to keep my nape area especially very short (buzzcut) and I 'robocut' it in-between haircuts and it only takes 30 seconds.

I'll 'robocut' my hair at the Windsor convention and someone with a better english vocabulary than mine will probably be nice enough to write about a few key points that I will stress upon. It's difficult for me to put it in words.

E: of course I remember you, we had some good conversations in Chicago...

You will also receive the pics tomorrow, you too Dino.

And all you guys will get a bonus pic on how I hold the robocut upside down which allowed me to no longer have to use any mirrors during the cut-in and this isn't in the instructions booklet hehe..

And it's free of charge. No, no I insist!!! It is FREE! hahahahaha
