maybe debbie has a comment i have heard erin and didi is great but $160 for a cut in....i think thats a little hi..not trying to wreck you didi but $160 is the highest price i have ever heard of. and i been many p[laces and live in big city here...heck the units only cost $200
bob/philly
Yep .. that's what I thought when she told me on the phone
... way too steep.
DiDi talked about her years of industry experience .. etc ..
etc ..... And she is totally booked up at the salon she is at ...
which I suppose says something
I guess it is another case of supply and demand ... what
the market will bear along with 1500-2500 dollar monthly studio
apartment rentals .. no bigger than the size of a shoebox.
According to forum lore ... DiDi and Erin did work with
Farrell hairpieces in the past.
It is still less money than that darn Hair Club for Men or
my favorite tv hair commercial - JL Alternatives - whom spend
a fortune on infomercials and never return calls or emails for
their services ....
and of course, if I can conjure up the hair juggling prowess of
the Michigan Baldy ... I won't have to see her for that very
expensive monthly visit ..
For me, as an absolute neophyte into the hairpiece domain ..
and in my quest ...for years, trying to dredge the truth
from HCM, Bosley and the crew of infomercial hair gurus
plaguing the nightly network wee hours ....
It might be worth it as far as a learning experience ...
Lets just be happy that everyone on this forum
for the most part, is so happy with their TopLace
experience ..
and also, that the founder of TopLace had the marketing
cajones to charge a price is within most of our budgets so
that we all can enjoy the feeling of looking good.
It's not lore, they are both ex-Farrel. I believe that Erin will cut additional systems after the first one in a day for $50 each. If that's still true (naturally you'd have to ask her for sure), then you can order 2 and your cuts are $75. Might sound high to some but remember a lot of people in NYC spend well over $100 for a regular salon haircut.
I remember when I first saw Didi's price I thought it was a little steep also but as Debbie said earlier the rental spaces in NYC are ridiculously high. I was very happy with Didi , she did a great job and she is extreme;y knowledgeable. I know she spent at least 2 hours with me on first cutin , she showed me step by step how to to it, showed me some neat little tricks and went the extra mile with me on the hair color and styling. I learned so much from her she put herself out of a job. I do everything myself now but she was exactly what I needed to put myself in a position of self reliance.
Yes, Bill has brought up another point. Both Didi and Erin give instruction as they work with you so you actually learn something while you are there so you can be self reliant.
so, I certainly cannot diss them for their prices, if I had to rent space in NYC, I'd have to get those kind of prices to pay the rent/overhead. fortunately for me, I work with low overhead. however, I may not be able to afford heat this winter with the price of fuel oil. ha ha
so, If you book an appointment with me this winter, wear a sweater. haha
DebbieS.
debbie wow heating is insane....bill maybe you are correct and i am out of line cause if you are getting lessons also its more then a cutin..so now it does really not sound so high..my experences have been cutin's and bye..so you are correct bill..sorry didi
bob/philly
Bobby no problem I had the same thought thinking a cutin would be about $100, as matter of fact I think I emailed Debbie my surpise at Didi's price but Debbie explained to me what she did everyone else here.
let me tell you about NYC , jobs pay well but you pay thru the nose for everything
Cigarettes NYC $8.00 in Fla 2.75 a pack
drinks in NYC $15.00 or more in Fla. anywhere from $3.00 to $5.00
my rent for a 900 sq ft 1 br apt , $2,200.00
a 1200 sq ft 1 br apt in Fla on the beach is $1,000.00
That's how I look at it Bill ....
160 bucks is very steep to you experienced pros who
from your experience, cannot justify it ...now that YOU
KNOW how to do it and have some experience under your belt ...
But for me ... a first timer ... a hairpiece is as unfamiliar
as playing with Davy Crocket's private muskrat .. I don't know
the front from the back ... and if you think about it ... and
the costs of education .... NYC (New York University) charges
like 300-500 dollar a credit .... If you were to go to a technical
school to learn how to toss, turn, realign and ventilate your
wig ... just think what they'd charge .... but to those who
remember when the postman first delivered your furry little
hair critter .. and it fell out of the box .... with limited
instruction... how you would have liked someone to take the
time (with the years of experience of a real hair stylist and
one who has the eyes for that sort of thing) to help you from
the gitgo.
Erin is cool on the phone, although some might know her from
her previous incarnation as a male (whichever name she went under) ...
I love Erin's prices but definitely felt more confident talking
with DiDi ... and we're buying pieces to look good ... aren't we ...
So ... at least for a first time ... or till I'm as familiar with
the piece ..... I will have to scrimp and cut out a few Starbuck's 5-
dollar rancid, burnt cups of coffee and bite the bullet ... but on
the other hand, the other company I was thinking of was hairdirect
... and their pieces start at 500 ... so even seeing DiDi ... and
buying from TopLace ... I still have another 100 bucks rolling
around in my pocket.
Ya gotta love living in the Big RipOff ... er .. BIG APPLE ...
I was born here ... this is my home ... I don't know what it's like
to live in Dayton, or St. Paul, or even Frisbee ....
And I thank you guys for your support and this forum.
I just wish I could print the whole darn thing out and read
it away from my computer from beginning to end.
listen I went to a stylist that was recommended on the forum. And I kind of am against stylists charging so much. This girl cut the hair good. she knew what she was doing. But what I didnt like about them was that they did what they wanted and kind of took the liberty to do things i didnt want to do. for instance I didnt want my head shaved, they insisted on doing it. I didnt want a full head bond, but they did it anyway. I didnt want them to cut the lace, but they put the system on wrong and then cut my front lace up to fit the shape. But as far as hair cutting ability they seemed to know what they were doing, and im sure they do a good job for people. I just didnt like the MY WAY ONLY approach. And they were really rough with the system too.
Now when I went home i had to take the thing off with all that hard bond glue all over my head. and reattach it, cause it was on crooked. I got the system to work after, but If that was a salon and I had to leave the place like that and go on with my life. Id be very upset cause it didnt look good when i came out. the hairline was so damn low i looked like a chimpanzee.
If I had your experience Xeon I would feel the same way. My experience was just the opposite. Not only did she do everything the way I asked she showed me precisely how to do it. Also while I was there I was treated to unlimited martinis served to me by a young bare breasted, well endowed Norwegian girls in thongs with high heels,a steel band in the background played calypso music, a pedicure, manicure, a bare breasted massage by a very sweet oriental girl with nipples as big as chestnuts.
you went to the wrong stylist.

bill what part of fla.. i had a house on singer island and a couple in wpb...not many 1000.00 month apts left in these towns much...i lived in cocco beach back in 85 for a job i took...on the block of the ocean $250 water included..wow i was rich...if you are still living in fla.donna in boca is pretty good about $75 a cut in
bob/p
yeah Bob, in the SO. St. Petes area its available. I'm bgoing to move there in the fall. West Palm, Boca and that immediate vicinity are higher but really not that much as I looked there.
I dunno Bobby the last I looked the housing market in Fla, was in the proverbial toliet and they cant find buyers 30% under and its still plummeting. I cajnt speak for nwest palm, but ft lauderdale has great deal right now
you are correct somewhat. as the whole country is in a jam but in south fla many places homes went from 300,000 to 1 mil..now worth say 700k..problem is the people who payed 1 mil...but the houses shot up big time..selling then retail is not happening..we got land in loxahatchee fl 20 miles west of west palm beach..1.25 acre tracts are a solid 200k for the last 4 years..because at the time of purchase long ago. most people payed little 4 the land and built a cheap fla home on the land for 100k..now because land is so high most build 500-700k homes on the same property..making area land hot...bush ruined the whole country and i am not a politics guy
bob/p
listen. Dont be dumb. I have never paid over 70 dollars for a hair cut even from stylists who usually charge a 100 or more. If you show them that you are not interested in paying 100 dollars or you will walk away.. most of the "smart" stylists will give u a deal and keep your business, because even if they do charge you 50, 60 or 70 its still a nice profit for them just to give a haircut, especially if they are doing it from their home. that goes straight in their pocket. If they wont lower their price their greed just made them lose money and its their loss.
