I have worn before but stopped and now I want to go back to wearing for good but one of the things that I always had trouble with when wearing was the actual alignment of the piece on your head. Its always been kind of a hit or miss kind of thing...I have seen MB's video but he is able to hold the piece that way because he doesnt use any tape...for people who use tape holding it like that would cause your fingers to stick to the piece...any tips?? I want to start wearing as soon as this week but Iam still a bit nervous.
Well, I'm far from an expert at this, but the last time I used tape, I put the backing back on the tape in sections, with a 90-degree bend near the ends of each piece of backing to act as little handles, and then I was able to position the unit and undo each piece of backing, one at a time, in an orderly progression from font to back.
I also used hair clips to clip the hair into bunches to help prevent hairs from falling down into the tape. And I also used some clips as centering markers and the like.
There's a FAQ somewhere on Toplace that says to apply a little piece of tape in the middle of the unit to hold the unit onto your head while positioning everything else, and then to remove the little piece of tape before folding down the back half. I haven't yet tried this technique myself, but it sounds promising.

I have been doing it myself in the past 5 months and yesterday I finally doing it right
I bought a big bottle of alcohol and spray it on the tape before attaching, you can move it around or stretch it for about 30 seconds or so before the stickiness came back... it makes life 100 times easier !
Attach the tape (sides and bsck) to your head first, not the unit. Makes things a lot easier, IMO, not having to worry about your fingers sticking to the tape on the unit while handling it.
I use tape around the sides and back and glue in the front and this works well for me (applying the tape to the scalp first, not the unit).

I also use alcohol for aligning the piece. I spray a little bit on the tape on the piece and a little bit on the head. You can put the piece on then and put it on the right spot.
Helps a lot in my opinion.

Attaching the tapes to my scalp first was a big improvement for me. I think that it makes for a better hairline, as you can stretch the lace as you apply it using the same technique as for glue.
Its good to practice how to attach a piece by putting the tape onto the lace. This way if a new tape comes out thats great or has contours that match ur hairline, attachment will be real easy. Im still trying to learn. Alot of times when i attach tape to the front hairline i get ripples. sometimes i dont. Im not sure if its what im doing.. or the type of tape.
Put a lil oil on ur finger tips to prevent sticking. The way I attach is that i leave the tape backings on the lace (except the very back edge. .. and put it on my head so it doesnt stick. once i get it into the position i like i tack down the very back. then lift up the unit fro the front in front of a mirror to get a view of the underside and unpeel the tapes section by section going forward. In other words i tack down the back. lift up the front tack down the next sequence of tapes tack down.. lift up next section etc
Hmmm, I do the same thing, but going from front to back, as it seems that if I went from back to front that I might have a lot of trouble with the front ending up crooked.
the single best way is to call a friend over and tell them to take 5 minutes of their time to help you line it up.
every week my friend helps me line it up from the back and everytime its a perfecto placement.
there must be someone everyone can call to help them!
I do it in sections so i can always check and look to see where the front will be. plus for me doing the back first gives me a very clear view of everything in the mirror
Right -- I do it in sections for the very same reason. I do have to peel off the tape backings using the two-mirror barber shop technique, but that works out okay. Maybe I'll try going in the other direction next time, though. It does sound like a bit less of a hassle not having to fiddle with the mirrors as much, but on the other hand it seems as it will be much more difficult to get a perfect alignment in the front.
I never had a problem with alignment doing it this way. One thing to take into consideration when it comes to alignment. If you stretch out your lace. then you should put the unit a little higher on ur forehead then u normally want. cause as u stretch it down it will go lower..
