I just have my cut-in and unit attachment yesterday, the hair when I got it looked really good, I ordered body wave, but now it looks curly and it doesn’t match with my hair, my hair is straight
And also I have another problem, I am using “base bond” for the hairline and it doesn't stick to my skin …..
Please help ….

I'm going to tell you what I tell all the newbies that show up at conventions. don't expect your first attachment to stay on long. your head perspires alot and when your nervous, as one inevitably is when getting their first piece, your head will be too sweaty for the glue to work well. so don't judge basebond by this first attachment. it could just be that its your first.
the hair at bobywave will relax very soon, but if your hair is real straight, you should order straight hair, not wavey...but you will be surprised at how much that wave relaxes with just a wash or two.

Thanks for your response Debbies, you are right about my nervousness, it is my first time with this. I have an oily skin, I am not sure if I have to use something else, can you please tell me what other method can I use?

Another thing, I noticed when the unit is wet it looks nice, but as soon as it dries it changes. what can I use in order to have it with that look.
Thanks

I am sorry for my english

you could try a good, non alcohol styling gel to keep the wet look

wow ... that's interesting ...

July 11 2008, 7:30 PM

So .. when I get my first piece ... probably
in August .... sounds like what I have to look
forward to .. is my head is going to drip like
a prized, well fed billy goat's last meal before
the annual Louisiana BillyGoat lovers barbecue ...

Boy .. that dampens the excitement a bit I've
had over the last 3 weeks after talking with
John ... and Di Di .....

Hope we don't have a really HOT AUGUST here
in NYC like it's been for the last 2 weeks ...

No, if you're getting an SFS unit, then compared to using Toppik, et. al., you're getting a gift from god with regard to sweating.

Expect a somewhat daunting learning curve, and expect everyone to tell you you're an idiot for all the stupid questions, you'll no doubt ask. But in the end, it'll work out well, I am sure. I'm much happier now than I was with a head full of Toppik. Though sometimes it feels like another full-time job figuring everything out. Once I have it all figured out, I'm sure it will be like riding a bike.

Yosuji.
Concerning the Basebond not adhering well. I to have oily skin. But if I wipe my scalp especially at hairline with 91% alcohol just prior to applying (let alcohol dry) Then apply basebond at supposed hairline, wait about a minute until sticky, then press lace down hard, then follow up with fine tooth comb pressing down hard at very front of lace edge. Something you may want to try.

if you have REAL oily skin, you may want to try one of the waterproof adhesives such as tight grip or ultra hold.

Another thing you can try to get better adhesion from Base Bond is to do two or three layers of the adhesive. Let the first layer get tacky and then do another and let that get tacky before you press the lace down.

I was an UltrHold user for 5 years and then recently tried basebond. I do the alcohol wipe, then apply 3 separate coats and get a good 5-6 day hold and it is MUCH easier to clean for me. It's funny how we all respond differently to chemicals like tapes and glues. Although base bond works for me, Iglue and CP white glue did not even for 2 days and I still get no satisfaction to ST30 so I use blue-liner tape for sides and back

yosujue,

let me tell you something man,

as bad as you think your piece might look, its prob not that bad!! because the funny thing is that i look back 2 yrs ago when i first started to wear and im like wow, that looked bad.. but when i first started wearing i was happy and still no one noticed anything..

so my point is, that as hard as we judge our own hair, other people just arent judging it like that.

in two yrs time, ive gotten really brave with wearing hair and ive gone with some really hardcore full exposed hairlines that simply no one even looks twice at but i would have never dreamed of trying when i first started.. but right now i judge my front fully exposed hairline pretty harshly.. im sure a yr from now ill be saying to myself what was i worried about all this time!!

I was lucky that my first choice was white glue as that works perfectly for me. Everyone is different so you may want to try 2-3 differnet glues until you find the one that works best for you.

the pieces when you first get them are a bit harder to manage in the beginning. Use a conditioner and slow dry it after showering. I wear a towel on my head and let it dry slowly and than just very lightly blow dry on cool temperature. Buy a non alchohol styling gel also.

When we're talking about white glue

July 21 2008, 11:22 AM

When we're talking about white glue ..

Are we talking about the glue we are all
familiar with that we grew up with using
in grade school to paste photos ...collages

and ... to fix the occasional teacup ??

And if it is ... is the glue sold for
hairpieces the SAME ... just at an inflated
price with different packaging ...

The white glues that I sell are specifically made for hair replacement and/or medical prosthetic use and are approved for skin use.

Beginner Package for Newbies - Emergency First Aid Kit

July 21 2008, 12:46 PM

Debbie .... I am still waiting for my
first piece .. and then .. it's off to see Di Di
in NYC .... do you have a beginner's package ...
glues or tapes ... samples .. maybe around a
hundred bucks .. so I have stuff around
the house ... to experiment with .. maybe the more
popular items mentioned here on Toplace - like ST30 ..

So ..if, for example ... the bond becomes loose
... I don't do something stupid and go reaching
for the crazy glue or buy a ferret to squat on my
head during the day ..

I didn't see a phone number on your website to call ...

I think a 'newbies' kit like this ... would be extremely
helpful ... and also ... as an emergency first
aid for hair wearers .....

I know their are some guys like to experiment with
things to save money ... etc ...
(hey .. it keeps Home Depot in business)

But when your time IS MONEY ...
I like to learn as much as possible from
the trials and mistakes of others ....

and just end up with what we are all here for
... a natural head of 'someone else's hair' ..
that looks and acts like our own (used to) ...

Thanks in advance.

Hey, well if Elmer's works for you, go for it. I'm doubting that it will.

Some people in Australia claimed that a certain hobby glue worked very well for them. The consensus seemed to be that Aleene's Tack it Over and Over Again glue is the closest thing to a US equivalent. I don't recall anyone reporting back on whether it worked well for them.
