Imagine .. just for a moment ... you were a
newbie ... waiting anxiously for your hair ..well
someone else's hair .. which will be yours soon.. to
arrive via the postal man ...
Waiting patiently for john to subdue the little
creature and than fanny-whack it into a mailing envelope ..
and then
Assume you were going to immediately book an appointment
with DiDi .. the NYC-based, ex-Farrell hair patriot .. to
style, curve, colorize, texturize and fondle the beast into
an appealing, natural look ...
Well .. knowing what you know now ... from your years
of trials and experimentation ... if you were to assemble
a 100 dollar emergency kit ... stuff you would have wanted
to have on hand (from Debbie) ... what would you order ??...
Now remember ... I am totally clueless ...
I'm like that retarded, ex-inlaw who got kicked in the head
by a mule in Yule, Wyoming ....
So .... make believe you're putting together a Christmas
list for the BaldyMan ... and you've got 100 bucks to spend ..
and don't tell me to ask Debbie .. i did ... :0
c'mon guys .. you can do it ...
And just think .. how many newbies on here YOU WILL BENEFIT
besides me .. by giving them the benefit of your experience

yes, i told Count to give me a wish list of sorts of what he would like to try........
so please help him with what products all of YOU think he should have on hand in a kit, keeping in mind that he is new to this.
I would suggest:
st-30, lace release, pure and one white glue and one clear waterproof glue.
and count, I'm pretty sure we can do this for much less than $100.
(unless your wish list gets carried away, ha ha)

I don't know if Debbie sells it, but I would also suggest a box Valium included. With clear instructions and diagrams of how to open the box, take out the capsule and how to insert it in the mouth, and making sure people know they need to drink water to wash it down. Mineral or tap water some might ask, both are fine.
Re: Assembling the Hair First Aid Kit .... a newbie kinda thing

Also:
Creme of Nature shampoo for dyed hair.
Clairol hair dye.
A box of standard combs from Sally's.
A box of fine-tooth rat-tail combs from Sally's.
A collection of hair clips of various sizes from Sally's.
Spray bottles from Sally's for lace release and adhesive solvent.
Hair dying bottle from Sally's for concentrated application of lace release.
Several large hand mirrors from CVS or better yet Sally's.
A head band.
Q-tips.
Some hobby paint brushes.
Nexus styling gel.
Nexus aerosol freezing hair spray.
Biosilk rock hard gel.
Exfoliant facial scrub.
Antibacterial face wash.
CVS 70& isopropyl alcohol rubbing & massaging wipes .
A styrohead and pins.
A plastic subway card for scraping glue residue.
A magazine with glossy pages for front touch-up cleanups.
A wallpaper seam roller.
An electric foil razor (lets you easily shave your stubble with practically no risk of removing any of your side hair).
A satin pillow case.
Barber shears if you're using tape. They make it easier to contour tape than office scissors do.

holy ****....do you actually have all that crap?
Yes, and they are all fabulous. Just which items are you asserting that I don't need?
And before you go on some nonsensical rant, I got 16 days out of my latest glue application, and I wash my hair every day. Did you?
- Darius
P.S. And the only reason I'm detaching today is so that I can shave my scalp and just in case I don't make it until next weekend, I have free time tonight.

Darius, most of the items you listed are personal preference, but not a requirement like lace release.
shampoo is whatever you want to use.
I have never had to dye my hair, so therefore that is something I wouldn't need.
don't need spray bottles, order from Debbie and it comes in one.
one or two clips is enough.
"Hair dying bottle from Sally's for concentrated application of lace release"....what?? don't need.
one hand held mirror is sufficient.
don't need a headband.
q-tips...everyone should have these for obvious reasons
hobby paint brushes is a good idea along with toothpicks.
styling gel...personal preference
freezing hair spray? nope, don't need it.
rock hard gel? nope, don't need it.
facial scrub...nothing to do with hair.
face wash...see comment above
styrohead and pins..good idea to have this.
a plastic subway card...nope, don't need this unless you eat at Subway.
magazine, don't need it. (use lace release properly and all residue should be on your head, not the piece.)
A wallpaper seam roller..definitely don't need this.
a satin pillow case, nope, don't need.
dude, I think you go overboard on this forum sometimes.
Re: Assembling the Hair First Aid Kit .... a newbie kinda thing
July 21 2008, 11:48 PM
Rod, dude, don't get what you don't need. I'd rather have on hand everything I do need, rather than being SOL when I'm invited out to an orgy, and find that my rug is falling off.
Everyone else, is of course, free to take any recommendations with a grain of salt.
shampoo is whatever you want to use
Take this up with all the other folk in this forum who say otherwise.
I have never had to dye my hair, so therefore that is something I wouldn't need.
Right. I'm sure that the Count can figure this out. One does need to redye the unit periodically in order to deal with fading and red-tones. Unless you toss your SFS units every three months, maybe you don't need to worry about it.
don't need spray bottles, order from Debbie and it comes in one.
You do that. Her Pure doesn't come in a spray bottle, and 99% alcohol doesn't either.
one or two clips is enough.
If you say so. My stylist gave me a couple dozen, and they've been invaluable. God bless her soul.
"Hair dying bottle from Sally's for concentrated application of lace release"....what?? don't need.
Take it up with MB. He shows just how to use these in his video. He calls it a "dabber", but the hair dyeing bottle does the same job.
one hand held mirror is sufficient.
Not if you want to see how your blend is in different lighting. If you don't check in different lighting, you're gonna get exposed.
don't need a headband.
Take it up with MB.
q-tips...everyone should have these for obvious reasons
And?
styling gel...personal preference
If you don't have it, and your blend isn't working out, you're SOL.
freezing hair spray? nope, don't need it.
Then don't buy it. Keeps you from waiting around for gel to dry. Also can help make the shininess of your side hair match the shininess of the unit hair.
rock hard gel? nope, don't need it.
Does a better job of giving your unit hair body if you don't want it to be crunchy, which the freezing spray makes it.
facial scrub...nothing to do with hair.
Au contraire. Take it up with Debbie, as she sells it for cleaning your scalp. If you want to get a sixteen day attachment from glue, trust me, you want it.
face wash...see comment above
Yes, see comment above.
a plastic subway card...nope, don't need this unless you eat at Subway.
It's good for scraping glue off the top of your head. Ditto for fine-tooth comb.
magazine, don't need it. (use lace release properly and all residue should be on your head, not the piece.)
Sorry, buster, that doesn't do the job for cleaning under the front lace if you're not doing a full detachment. The magazine trick saved my ass just the other night, when area on front lace turned whitish after a shower before heading out to a party.
A wallpaper seam roller..definitely don't need this.
Yes, you do -- you just don't know it. Besides, why would you want to skimp on $2 measly bucks?
a satin pillow case, nope, don't need.
Take the issue up with everyone else here.
dude, I think you go overboard on this forum sometimes.
Dude, I'm throwing pearls before the swine.

Darius if your gettin a 16 day hold all the power to ya mate.
This is what I'm saying.
You experiment, and you don't skimp out on buying all the little things you might need for your experimentation, and you're going to end up with the best skills and the best hair.
Re: Assembling the Hair First Aid Kit .... a newbie kinda thing

he he....I just wanted to get you stirred up, but I still say its mostly personal preference. To follow up on your comments:
the shampoo comment was meant to be any shampoo recommended on this forum, not just any shampoo...I use pureology anti-fade complex, but there are several others.
The Pure doesn't need to be in a spray bottle, you put in on a washcloth and rub it on.
I use one hair clip. I attach my piece and clip the front up to apply the tape or glue, thats it. don't need a dozen.
If you take one hand held mirror and turn it from side to side and also turn your head you can see from different angles. I really don't worry about my blending but if you do, then maybe you need more than one, I honestly haven't tried it.
Headband, ok MB, I say that is something you don't need..ha ha. Ok so I took it up with him.
Q-Tips...AND...like I said, these are something you and everyone else should already have, you don't need to list it.
As for the gel...."If you don't have it, and your blend isn't working out, you're SOL."
Bulls**t, that is a styling and hair cut issue, gel is not gonna solve your problems.
as for the facial stuff, don't want a 16 day hold.
but I will take that up with Debbie also.
That subway card is needed I guess because you leave your piece on for 16 days.
"Sorry, buster, that doesn't do the job for cleaning under the front lace if you're not doing a full detachment. The magazine truck saved my ass just the other night, when area on front lace turned whitish after a shower before heading out to a party."
Again...what?? you spray lace release on the front...you wait 3-4 minutes and then you lift up....all the residue is on your scalp, not the piece. I have never had an issue with that.
As far the wallpaper seam roller, don't know how much it costs, don't care, been wearing for 12+ years and have never needed one...wouldn't take one if it was free.
A satin pillow case..I actually have and use one but it is not something that you have to have.
Again, man, all this stuff is personal preference, people are gonna have to figure out what they need and don't need, but I'm just saying everyone doesn't need to run out and start spending money on all these items you listed.

Re: Assembling the Hair First Aid Kit .... a newbie kinda thing
July 22 2008, 1:46 AM
I don't see the point in being contrary here for it's own sake. I never said that all the stuff I recommend is necessary. I just found that this stuff works well for me, and if you don't need it, more power to ya'. If people ask for advice, I tell them my experience, and what I've gleaned from other posts. Nothing I've written here wasn't recommended by other veterans here, in this very forum.
the shampoo comment was meant to be any shampoo recommended on this forum, not just any shampoo...I use pureology anti-fade complex, but there are several others.
I'm sure there are. I use Pureology too, but you can get Creme of Nature at Sally's for about a twentieth the price, and by all accounts it's just as good. Many people here assert with no uncertain terms, that not just any shampoo is okay. They particularly state that you want a sulfate free shampoo. Creme of Nature is cheap, available, and up to spec. If you want to blow more of your cash on Pureology, go ahead. If you want to experiment with 20 different shampoos, go ahead. On the other hand, you can go to Sally's and buy a big bottle of CoN for $4.00.
The Pure doesn't need to be in a spray bottle, you put in on a washcloth and rub it on.
So now you need a washcloth. Want me to change the list for ya?
I prefer the spray bottle. Costs $.99. Ouch, I'm broke! Even the washcloth costs more!
I use one hair clip.
Well, I use a bunch. Then if an an area on the side of my head needs a glue touch up, I can clip hair completely out of the way, and do a very nice touch-up. Or I can clip up my hair, and dye my side hair if it needs. to be. Clips are about $1.00 for a dozen. Ouch! I'm broke.
If you take one hand held mirror and turn it from side to side and also turn your head you can see from different angles.
Maybe that's why you can't tell that your blend on the side isn't all that great.
And you can't see with one mirror how your crown looks in sunlight or in flourescent lights. Ditto for your blend in the back.
Besides, just how fscking cheap are you? A big hand mirror at Sally's is less than $4.00.
I really don't worry about my blending but if you do, then maybe you need more than one, I honestly haven't tried it.
Well, maybe all your friends are talking about your rug behind your back.
Headband, ok MB, I say that is something you don't need..ha ha. Ok so I took it up with him.
Q-Tips...And like I said, these are something you and everyone else should already have, you don't need to list it.
Are you worried about a waste of precious bytes? I keep Q-tips in my hairpiece maintenance box, so I have everything at hand in one place.
As for the gel...."If you don't have it, and your blend isn't working out, you're SOL."
Bulls**t, that is a styling and hair cut issue, gel is not gonna solve your problems.
You don't know what the fsck you're talking about. If the texture of your natural hair or the shine of your natural hair doesn't match the texture or shine of your hairpiece hair, then proper use of gel will so fscking solve your problems.
as for the facial stuff, don't want a 16 day hold.
Then don't use the stuff. Was someone trying to force you?
That subway card is needed I guess because you leave your piece on for 16 days.
My cleanup after 16 days was no worse that my cleanup after 7 days. Besides, even if it was worse, I'd rather spend a slight bit more time once every two weeks than have to do the cleanup and application every week.
I didn't have the time to do a full release of the front. I released just a tiny little bit of the lace, where it had turned white cleaned under it with a glossy magazine page, and was good to go in a few minutes. Waste your time if you want. I on the other hand, am clever enough to know that glossy catalog pages come in the mail for free.
As far the wallpaper seam roller, don't know how much it costs, don't care, been wearing for 12+ years and have never needed one...wouldn't take one if it was free.
I guess you are not fortunate enough to have female friends that are always running their hands through your hair and might feel a seam.
A satin pillow case..I actually have and use one but it is not something that you have to have.
Did I ever say have to have? They are highly recommended by many people here.
Again, man, all this stuff is personal preference, people are gonna have to figure out what they need and don't need, but I'm just saying everyone doesn't need to run out and start spending money on all these items you listed.
Yeah those dozen hair clips for $1.00, that free glossy catalog, that $4.00 bottle of Creme of Nature. That's really going to set everyone back a month's salary.
What kind of cheap bastard are you anyway?

"I guess you are not fortunate enough to have female friends that are always running their hands through your hair and might feel a seam"
No, but I have a beautiful wife that takes care of that mate.
The fact is that you seem to have become obsessed with your hair and this forum....take a break and find a hobby other than hair and forums. Your posts are getting old to me. Unlike you, I don't have time to write anymore books on hair supplies. And I can assure you that my blending on the sides looks good. The thing is I haven't seen too many of your pictures posted, just a lot of bull and problems. You were the one that couldn't figure out how to use the st30 right? You need to figure out how to get yours right before you start posting all this advice like your some kind of expert. Now I have to run along to my life. You should do the same but as usual I know you will have to come back with another one of your long a$$ replies where you have to copy each thing I say. wallpaper seam roller....give me a break.
Thanks .. from the second post .. it seems
like I can get a lot of the supplies .. whether
I need them immediately or not ...
(but you explained pretty thoroughly
in this post .. what I can use them for ...
and how helpful they are in a pinch ....)
for like 20 bucks at Sally's ...
I just wish we had a Sally's in NYC .. or do we ?
and then still have the bulk of the 100 dollar spending
limit I set .. on the tapes and stuff from Debbie
I've read the other posts .. and yes ..sometimes
having extra stuff seems like overkill ...
But three weeks ago, on one of those hot and steamy
NYC nights, my 20 AMP fuse blew in my apartment in my
150 year old building ... and what I would have given
at 2:30 AM in the morning to get that A/C unit and
lights to kick back on ...
Not to mention the 4 hours the next day that I wasted ..
walking around NYC's Chinatown, the Bowery ... scowering
the hardware stores to find a darn, simple 2-3 dollar fuse
that you would think every store would carry by the
truckload in their inventory ....
Well that night ... if you wanted to make a few bucks..
and you had a spare fuse ...you could have held me hostage
for 50 bucks ... and it would have been worth every penny
of it ...
And the proper tools can make our life easier ...
but on the other hand ... someone like my dad is very
primative in his approach ...
give him a hammer ...a chisel and a saw .. and he can
build or replicate practically anything from scratch
whether it's a piece of rare furniture to redesigning
a whole house ...
(we watched him do it to other's amazement as we grew
up as kids ... stuff that plugged in was too complicated
for him)
On the other hand, my cousin ... a well known contractor
...has every kind of tool known to mankind .. and knows
how to work them ...
in the end .. my dad and my cousin both end up with the
same result .. it's just that my cousin is lazier and
likes to get the job done faster with less effort ...
my dad grew up working the NYC docks and revels and
takes pride, enjoys the work and the artistry that emanates
from working with less .....
Everybody has an opinion ...
I personally .. take in everyone's advice, learning
experiences and mistakes ... because I want the result ..
a hairpiece that looks like the lord put it there with the
least amount of experimenting .. I've seen the crap out
there and DON'T want to be the new Howard Cossel (SP?)
on the block..
I don't have the time to experiment .. and this forum is
for that ... Some of you guys will be like my dad ...driving
a nail into your skull with precision (just kidding .. don't
try that at home) ... and some will take advantage of tools
.. like Darius ...
but when it comes down to it ... all the information is
valuable .. whether it is right or wrong ...
If I leave with just one idea when i go to a convention
(even the Windsor convention coming up) ... that one
idea might have cost me years in learning experiences ..
I thank everyone on here for replying ...
(And for the others ... I still have the Haitian lady next
to me and she's sitting here with that Voodoo doll and some
knitting needles ... boy .. she loves to stir those bat wings!
Hey, Count, they have Sally's like everywhere. I think they even have one on the moon. (It was part of Bush's NASA proposal -- we can't go to Mars without looking good.)
If you can't find a Sally's in the Big Apple, I'm sure there are 1,000 other beauty supply places that would carry the exact same stuff.
I would like to add some more supplies to the list
Tomasons duel handled scissors. = i like these because they have a soft grip and are easy to use. the cutting ends are very thin to make nice cuts in tape or lace
Castor Oil beauty complex= Duel use. U can use it for ur hair, and u can use it to lube up ur cutting tools and finger tips to avoid tape/glue getting stuck.
Citrus solvent= i find this good for melting glues
Package of balloons= i use this to do the mirror slide on.
Dvd player= to watch mbs video or other videos
Pentium IV duel core 2.6 megahertz with fios internet= This will give you great speeds to navigate the hair forums and download media.
Beur Paint= I recommend you paint your room with bear paint because it reflects light better. ull be able to see your attachment better if you use this paint.
microfiber towel= I never tried it, but i think its good.
Jergens glow tanning lotion= This is good for getting a tan without the hassles of the sun. The sun fades the hair system, so avoid the sun. Use jergens for your tan!
Dermmatch/prothik= good to have a cosmetic concealer handy for lil touchups if needed. Such as temple points or if u dont align ur system up correctly.
a buzzer/trimmer= good for cutting in your own side and back hair.
Dulce and Gabanna cologne= This is a great addition to your hair system. U will smell very nice and be even more attractive to the ladies.
Johnson and johnsons baby powder= I use this to powder my balls after a shower. Just because you have a nice set of hair, doesnt mean your balls should be smelly. t his is also a great addition to your system.
Ok some of my recommendations are real some are jokes. Sure some of the list is personal preference. but who knows. maybe someone would still find it useful. heh
Certainly confidence is essential, but I was at a dance club the other night and someone was confidently wearing just about the most ridiculous hairpiece you've ever seen. Even confidence can't help you if you're a laughing stock.
I, on the other hand, was both confident and looked mahvelous.
I recommend getting a couple of sets of these to keep all your useless used once products in.
And which of the products that I mentioned are going to be used once? I use all the products I recommended regularly, and they are all extremely handy.
The only things I have that are going to be used once or twice are the various tapes and glues I've tried that might not work out. But as it has been confirmed by nearly everyone here, everyone's body chemistry is different, and sometimes even spontaneously changes, as you yourself have pointed out. Consequently, a newbie would be nuts not to boyscout it, and stock a small variety of different glues and tapes until settling on the select few that work the best for him.
And the reason that I did so myself, is because this is precisely what was recommended by most of the folks in this forum when I started reading it a few years ago.
Also, all the stuff I mentioned (except the styrofoam head) handily fits in a box smaller than a box of copier paper.
if you ever go to Asia ... the #1 reccommended
indispensible powder by both Englishman, Canadians
and Thais for keeping the family jewels well-powdered,
and moisture-free
(and also ...in the heat of asia .. free of the
dreaded 'dry-sack')
I love this stuff ... It's like a layer of
air-conditioning for the body
In thailand, you'll see some entire thai families
leaving their houses in the morning ... covered from
head to toe .. like daylight poltergeists in the
dense Heat with Snake Brand ...
No self respecting, unscratching ... Englishman in
thailand would be without a convenient can ....
and I was amazed at some other posts at what
some regard as 'typical items you'd find around the house' ...
hmmmm ... certainly makes me wonder about some of you guys
but thanks everyone ... I'm so confused now ...
I just want to stop by Home Depot and pick up a 5
gallon can of spackle ! ...
>>>> Hey ... I'm kidding ... don't try that at home! <<<<
Package of balloons= i use this to do the mirror slide on.
Really? Or is this one of your joke entries?
Dermmatch/prothik= good to have a cosmetic concealer handy for lil touchups if needed. Such as temple points or if u dont align ur system up correctly.
Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention this one. Definitely essential. Dermmatch has saved my butt many a time.
no im serious i use balloons sometimes. U blow them up and rub it on them as u would a mirror. and it comes off on the balloon and when ur done u just pop it and throw it away. It does sound funny but it works!
no im serious i use balloons sometimes. U blow them up and rub it on them as u would a mirror. and it comes off on the balloon and when ur done u just pop it and throw it away.
So, does this work better than plastic wrap? Or do you just do it just "because"?
