My first post here so hi everyone.

Im 23 and have been thining and receding from front for about 3 years, have recently started using thickner/concealer whatever you like but its messy and not a great result, so i need to order hair.

Im in the uk can i still order from toplace, delivery time
can i just take it out of box and stick it on?
Any advice would be great about templates, matching colour,
styling inc cutting and how long they last.
Hope u can help.
Thanks for reading

simon

I got my piece in the mail 2 weeks ago. I ordered a small horsehoe piece for the the front hairline Because I have an unusually high forehead since childhood. I had to take my piece to a stylist to get cut in so it looked like it was apart of my natural hair. I would imagine that you will have to do the same. I cut a sample of my hair and sent it to Top Lace and they matched it exactly. I did my template in the bathroom infront of a mirror myself so it can be done on your
own if you want to. This is what I had to do as a new guy to
wearing hair.

yes, you can order from toplace. I think european orders all go through BA at baforum@fastmail.fm. just email him and he can sort you out.
no, you cannot take it out of the box and wear it, it will need to be cut / styled.
my BEST advise would be to read this forum, page after page of it and you will learn a ton about hair replacement and what you need to do in order to maintain, cut, style etc.
the information is pricesless and you must read up on things before you order or else you will just waste money with mistakes.

xxbadboy has answered most of your questions but you will learn so much if you spend a couple of hours going back through the forum & reading up.

Im in the UK and delivery times can vary. I've had one piece that arrived in just 4 weeks, another took 3 months. I think it depends on how busy the factory is but BA would be best to advise on that. I always allow 3 months & if it arrives any sooner then its a bonus. These pieces take time to make & they do a fair bit of travelling before they arrive.

The word toupee does sound very 80's & conjours up the old idea of a wig. Most on the forum here refer them as a 'piece'. Some sensitive people will only ever refer them as a 'hair system'.

Outside of the forum I refer to it as my 'rug' when talking to my mate. If I need to ask about a new piece I feel more comfortable saying to him 'Hows this new rug looking?' rather than 'Hows my new hair system looking?'. I can joke about it with him because the pieces are so realistic there is no joke to be had.

Edit : Debbie replied at same time with other info

Most of us bristle at the word "toupee", but I know a German guy who used to go to the same salon as me, and he happy talks about his toupee - that negative association does not exist in German.

It is useful to have a word for a partial wig which covers the typical male bald patch, and that is what a toupee is. A couple of the guys here use the word "topper", which is the same thing.

For public consumption I think "hairpiece" is the most neutral expression. In one of the final episode of Cheers Sam takes off his hairpiece and Carla says "**** he's wearing a rug", and Sam says "It's not a rug, its a hair extension system". The moral is that some of the euphemisms put out by the wig industry can make you sound very foolish.

"Syrup"...gotta love it BA!

BTW don't know if i told you or not, but the day after the convention I sent Betsy a text telling that you said "That bird sure cuts a bloody fine syrup" or something of the sort.

She got a kick out of that. And I had fun translating for her at the convention. Unfortunately she doesn't understand British slang OR Syrupese, haha

Now that I have a full cap maybe I need to call it my Chia pet. No?

Yeah Betsy knows her onions when it comes to cutting in a syrup, The job both Debbie did and Betsy did that day was as good as it gets.

I havent any plans to do anymore conventions in America but if I do Orlando would be on the short list.

I think it is coming up to the 5th Anniversary of Toplace(So to speak)in the next year or so, Maybe we will do one then and charge customers the cost of a piece it was 5 years ago when Toplace started, Now that would be good for everyone

Regards BA.
