5 Days ... An Amateur Hair Wearer's Experience - Photos

Some of the guys from the convention have written
to me off-line about how it is going as a first time
hairwearer....

It's 5 days now .... I haven't removed yet .. I've
had to replace the I-Glue in front (a few drops)
every morning.....

As you can see ... it's not as perfect a frontal hairline
as it was when Di Di (Toplace NYC stylist) did it ...
but it's the best me, a Q-tip and some 99 percent
alcohol could line up with on this
beginner's first foray into wearing....

I will see di di next week for some tips .. etc ..
But this will give you an idea .. I'm sleeping in the
thing ... We've had some HOT, unseasonable,
Humid weather here in NYC for the last week ...
I put a few dabs of Dep 100 percent alcohol
gel in my hair to blend the piece with my
natural hair and to keep those stray hairs from flying ...

I know I have a long way to go to get this down
where I don't have to think twice about it .. ..

but you guys are an amazing support vehicle
to have on ones side !....
(Including the guys who write me off the forum)

thecount

John .. naw ... don't call me that ...
We'll get mixed up with Toplace John !

P.S. Comment on the wig ... damn .. I'm not
going to get any younger or better looking at
this age !

P.S.S. Taken a few minutes ago ... by a
slightly tilted Tripod named 2 1/2 legs ...

Just make sure that glue doesnt get into the hair and make the hair strands stick together, Always comb a little alcohol through the hair if any strands are sticking together at the front.

It looks good bro, but there's something off about it as well. I think it might help if you dyed your eyebrows a dark brown/black.

Eyebrows ... Contours ... And finding Nathan Lane beneath the sheets !

September 17 2008, 11:41 AM

Wow .. Never thought about dying
the eyebrows ..

I'll suggest it to Di Di next time.

I'm still in the incompetant amateur
stage ... but having 15-20 years of concealer
use ... gives me a very slight advantage
over a complete neophyte ...

I didn't even think about eyebrows ...
women mess with their
eyebrows all the time .... duh !!

Front Contour ? Excuse my ignorance.
I'm clueless ...

MY HAIRWEARING EXPERIENCE!
**************************
I talk to Toplace John.
I call DiDi at his recommendation.
I sit in Salon chair with strange
Russian Stylist.
Di Di duct-tapes my head in plastic
And makes strange religious Marking on
the Saran Wrap (I know I'm going to hell now)

I send this party wrap to John.
2.. 2 1/2 months later ... Strange Dead
animals arrive by Priority Mail.

I go back to James Bently Salon and DiDi
She does her miracles ...

I wake up next day ... crazy gluing my forehead
with I-Glue ..
**********************************************

Never thought about Front contour ...
Probably something I should be concerned
about now that you brought it up ..

By the Way ... If I dye my eyebrowns like
Nathan Lane .... I won't wake up doing naked
floor shows, putting up CHER posters all over
my apartment and looking at the UPS guy cockeyed
... ...

No dog, You LOOK like Nathan Lane. It wasn't a reference to his eyebrows. My timing was just poor. :]

Count:  I find the suggestion above of dying your eyebrows valid but it's also a good idea of yours to check in with a pro like Didi about this.

I have 2 male friends who do it and it draws our attention to it in a suspicious way, it seems too dark.

Women always get away with it nicely because it becomes part of their overall make-up strategy but on a guy, it can look strange and too obvious.  I always notice it anyway.  As we always look in the eyes of someone we deal it, it's a very important area that never go unnoticed.

Maybe it has to be done in a light way so that it can darken your eyebrows just a little bit and at the same time it could go a long way towards the desired effect.  Mention this to Didi, I'm sure she'll understand what I mean.

Hans

"Never thought about Front contour ...

You really only need to be thinking about it if you plan on using the pre-cut tape strips in the front rather than glue. You can get them in various more or less standard curves called contours.

Course after messing with glue for a couple of weeks, you may go to tape, who knows!

Going to Tape

September 17 2008, 5:33 PM

I've been wondering about the possibility
of using tape for the front ... wonder if
it is possible in such an exposed hairline ...

And if it will give a more secure, natural
look

Sent BA some pics of how Di Di used ST-30
tape around the Poly, and Walker Tape in
the middle ..

BA's going to post the pics later ...

Don't do nuthin' to yer eyebrows, hombre.

Add some gray to the piece. That's all.

It will blend to who you are (you don't look like Nathan Lane at all, but the photo sort of zeitgeists your expression in an ironic and somewhat complex post-modern way) and it will enhance the undetectability factor. I don't know what percentage...maybe send it in for an add of 3 or maybe 5 percent gray?

Don't do tape in the front.

Just my own opinion.

Signed,

Melon

MelonAid ... Is that a another Benefit
to save Melon Farmers hosted by John Meloncamp
and Willy Nelson ...

But you're right .. I thought we ordered
the piece with some grey ...

(although I had very little grey in my
natural hair to begin with

(just on the left side for some reason).

Oh well .. we learn ... but I think I will
go with that suggestion in the future !
