Stock Units

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone actually orders stock units. If so, how do you get it to work?
My first order was a custom made, two-hundered dollar waste. Color was way off, no way to fix it. Maybe the garbage man is wearing it now, haha. The second time, I figured I would just order a stock unit to certain specs, cause I waited too long to get the custom. I got the stock unit to certain specs and holy crap did it get here fast! haha. BUT, I didnt know till I got it that the stock units dont come in AA contour. It had an 18 year olds hairline! haha. I know some of you had mentioned you get stock units, but how do you get the right kind of hairline with receeding? do you sit and pluck hair all day? haha.
I just dont want to sit and wait to get the refund from the stock unit, order another custom, and wait two months like I did before. Any word of advice? Or just suck it up and order a custom and be grateful when it comes? If its right! Im hoping third times a charm here!

Many, many people order stock units. you take your template, place it over the hairpiece and cut it to YOUR size. there you have it, a semi-custom unit.
the key is you have to know what color to order. if you don't know your color number...find out what it is. this will save you alot of headaches in the future.

Your stylist should be able to trim a stock unit to whatever shape you need.

I get my stock unit,on my head, brush hair straight back then brush down where i want my receeded temples to be then i put hair removal cream on that brushed forward bits, wait 5 or 10 minutes then just pull that hair out.Cut newly exposed lace back to hairline and beach the knots around hairlineThis works well for me.

Ptaclusp;
that is a VERY good tip and one I have not heard of before. I assume you are using "nare" or a similar brand hair removal cream?
very interesting. thank you for posting. I just love hearing of a new, innovative way of doing things and this tip has my interest up, I will definitely be trying it.!!
this is an awesome tip also for those that just want a more receded hairline (like JRob when he plucked all the hairs out to make a better hairline). just put the removal cream on the areas where you do not want the hair to customize the hairline. again..........a great tip!...I'll definitely be experimenting with it.

That is a good idea with the hair remover. I've often thought that recession could look more realistic if, instead of cutting the lace to the shape, you thin out the temple areas behind the "hairline." I think this could look more natural than the "curtains" of hair hanging over bare scalp. I've noticed that many women with thick hair often have thin temples, similar to this pic:

Interesting!

Wow,

Who would have thought of that!? Actually a really good idea. I was just worried about cutting it to the template because ther wouldnt be a sufficient amount of lace in front of the hairline.

I have ordered both custom and stock units from BA.

Both have worked for me and both have been crap. The crap ones are usually me messing around. E.g. I tried cutting one down and messed it up. Another one from the very same batch I cut down and did it correctly. Yes, you order a stock and then cut to size or recession style or wear it as is. I would guess that is why it is called 'stock'.

Same w/the custom ones I have messed w/those and completely messed them up, e.g. trying to put lace sealer on them etc. On others I have cut pieces of the laces away and fixed small rips w/the very same lace seal that messed up others.

Bottom line to me is that these wigs are IMO basically a lady's stocking w/hair attached. Sometimes whoever put them together does a good job and sometimes not. Same w/me sometimes I handle them well and other times I wreck them. They are cheap enough to allow me to mess around and not get too upset when they get messed up.

On the few times that the specs were not correct out of the box (envelope) BA repaired them w/o fail and in more than one occasion long after the initial receipt.

OK Patrick, No problem but you got to remember a lot of new young fellas read the forum and reading posts like yours scares them, So some dont order and stay down and depressed thinking a hairpiece wont work for them when we all know it can, And as posted many times I will personally do all I can to help everyone.

I have learned already that hair wearing can work for anyone, especially from this company. The forum is a huge perk, the costomer satisfaction is great, and any advice is given when needed. If I wasnt afraid of outing myself, for when I start wearing, I would totally recommend TL to anyone!
