A misplaced response to Mad bull - busted

My read on this is that the older gent, in his own way was trying to say that he is a good looking guy and this (bad piece) takes away from it. As an acquaintance of the abused, I would just say that "hey I am really sorry that he used me as an example because actually, I have been looking into this new company that has great looking pieces". Then go on to tell him that "these hairpieces are so much better looking than my old one that I am reconsidering wearing again". This should spark him to inquire about TL or he will slam his locker and salute you with a verb followed by a pronoun. Either way you have made a suggestion without insulting him.
